Kowloon Park

Kowloon Park is the largest comprehensive leisure park in the city. According to the topographical conditions of the park and the current development, the internal structure of the park is readjusted and divided into six functional areas: comprehensive leisure area, water activity area, sparse forest and grass area, tropical plant area, service area and children's recreation area.

Kowloon Park

Located in the heart of the Kowloon Peninsula, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, Hong Kong, Kowloon Park is one of the largest parks in Kowloon. It has a large green forest and attracts a large number of birds.

About the park

In addition to the trees, the park also has a number of fountain, a bird lake and a Chinese style courtyard, covering an area of 13.47 hectares. It is managed by the Hong Kong leisure and Cultural Services Department and is free to the public. Kowloon Park was formerly known as the weffy road barracks. In the 1970s, after the British Army stopped using the barracks, the government transformed it into a park. The children's Adventure Park in the park still has the remains of the British barracks fort.

Kowloon Park is the largest park in the downtown area of Kowloon. Since its opening in 1989, it has plenty of landscape and facilities, especially sculpture gallery, waterscape garden, bird garden, bird lake and plant labyrinth. As Hong Kong citizens or tourists, it is a good place to take a leisurely time.

Park overview

During the Opium War, Jiulong Park was the site of the Jiulong and guanyong fort that Lin Zexu urged to build. Later it became a British barracks. As a park, the Urban Council has become the "green lung" of the Kowloon Peninsula. The park is full of exotic flowers and birds. The pavilion style Chinese classical garden design is praised by tourists. On the side of the park near the road, there is a new line of big shops, called "Bailey shopping avenue", which is imitated from the United States. The roofs of the shops are all turned into gardens, which are connected with the park and are quite distinctive. The park also has an indoor heated swimming pool in line with international standards and an air-conditioned gymnasium. Sculpture path is an outdoor exhibition hall, displaying the masterpieces of local sculptors. At the north end is an inner courtyard, and one of the permanent exhibits is the work of Scottish sculptor Sir Eduardo paolozzii, a bronze statue of "concept of Newton" named Willian Blake.

Landscape

There is also a group of pavilions and pavilions built on the basis of ancient Chinese architectural style, called "Chinese garden", which adds features to the garden and makes it a good place for tourists to gather and enjoy. Tsim Sha Tsui MTR station is located at the entrance of the park. There is an indoor sports ground in Kowloon Park with complete facilities. All kinds of ball games can be held here. The swimming pool area is also divided into indoor and outdoor areas. Many regular programmes and heart games in Hong Kong are held here.

Kowloon Park was officially opened on June 24, 1970 and rebuilt in 1989. It provides a wide range of sports, recreational and recreational facilities for the public, including four indoor heated swimming pools, four outdoor swimming pools, indoor playground with air conditioning, Mini Football and handball venues, fitness path, playground and garden.

Covering an area of 2300 square meters, Kowloon Park Plaza can hold carnivals, concerts, outdoor exhibitions, etc. There are many different theme gardens in the park, such as sculpture gallery, rooftop garden, Chinese garden, magnificent garden and labyrinth garden. Historical evolution

In the 1830s, some Westerners found that Victoria Harbor was an ideal place for ships to berth. At that time, the location of the Kowloon Park was a strategic military area facing the harbor. In 1861, the British occupied the Kowloon Peninsula and named it the weffy road barracks. On June 24, 1970, the Kowloon Park was officially opened by the then governor, Sir David. By 1989, the park had been rebuilt by the former Royal Hong Kong Jockey Club at a cost of HK $300 million.

In 1989, with the support of the Hong Kong Jockey Club, Kowloon Park was rebuilt. Covering an area of 13.6 hectares, Kowloon Park provides a wide range of sports and recreational facilities, including indoor heated swimming pool, outdoor swimming pool, indoor playground, fitness path, playground and garden. The main stadium of Kowloon Park Indoor Stadium, with an area of 54 meters by 36 meters, is not only one of the largest air-conditioned sports venues in Kowloon, but also a popular place for local groups to hold various activities. Covering an area of 1200 square meters, the huge Kowloon Park Plaza is an ideal place for concerts, performances and exhibitions.

The swimming pool, which was opened on September 12, 1989, is located in the east wing of the park building

It has a total area of three hectares and can accommodate 1530 swimmers, with an annual attendance of more than 1 million. Kowloon Park Swimming pool is not only one of the best equipped swimming pools in Hong Kong, but also the only place suitable for holding large-scale or international swimming events in Kowloon.

Indoor swimming pool: there are four heated swimming pools in the natatorium, including a 50m main pool meeting the International Olympic standards, a 25m training pool, a 20m jumping pool and an irregular playing pool.

The depth of the main pool can be adjusted and equipped with advanced electronic timing equipment. The main pool and diving pool are equipped with underwater viewing facilities. There are five springboards and a diving platform in the diving pool, and a pair of special instruments are installed to spray bubbles into the pool water to form "air cushion", so as to reduce the chance of injury of divers during training.

The indoor training pool is located on the second floor of the basement. In addition to the electric heating pipe, there are also inclined passageways for the disabled to enter and leave the swimming pool and the lifting platform for the swimming pool. The training pool is available on Sundays, Mondays and Wednesdays for the elderly, the disabled or the chronically ill.

Other facilities in the swimming pool include an air-conditioned public grandstand with 1800 seats, a fitness room for swimmer training, a VIP room, an activity room, two press rooms, an audio-visual room, four men's and women's dressing rooms, two family dressing rooms, ten electronic gate machines and more than 2000 coin lockers.

All indoor swimming pools in Kowloon Park are mainly disinfected with ozone and chlorine.

Gymnasium

The stadium is located in the West Wing of the park building. With an area of 1760 square meters, the stadium is one of the largest all air-conditioned Gymnasiums in Kowloon. It is suitable for different types of sports activities.

The main floor is paved with beech wood, which can be divided into three basketball courts, three volleyball courts, three bowling courts, 12 badminton courts or one handball court. The supporting equipment for holding large-scale events, such as broadcasting system, electronic scoreboard and removable auditorium, are all available.

Other facilities include three air-conditioned squash courts on the first floor, two multi-purpose activity rooms for table tennis, martial arts, fencing and other recreational activities, a dance room and an activity room with armrests and mirrors, which are suitable for dance training or rehearsal. The fitness room is equipped with complete fitness equipment, which can be rented at any time by those holding fitness gold cards.

Small football field

There is a small football and handball field with floodlights in Kowloon Park. Opening hours: 6 am to 11 pm.

Liqi paradise

The fortresses and battery on the Park hills have been converted into playgrounds suitable for children under 13 years old.

Sculpture landscape

With an area of 150 meters by 100 meters, the sculpture gallery is a scenic spot for local and overseas artists to exhibit sculpture works for a long time or a short time.

This area is divided into two parts: the first part consists of 12 sculpture works created by young artists from Hong Kong and foreign countries. These works are for long-term exhibition, and are divided into two rows with six pieces in each row; the other part consists of eight small gardens, which are used to display the sculpture works of famous artists in turn or in short term. One of the main sculptures in the garden, Newton's idea, is the masterpiece of the famous sculptor Sir Eduardo borozzi.

roof garden

There are three landscaped gardens on the rooftop of the shopping mall on Bailey Avenue, Nathan Road, with plants and seats. Park visitors and tourists after shopping can rest here.

Open air square

Covering an area of 3300 square meters, the large open-air square is suitable for holding a variety of activities, such as street plays, outdoor exhibitions, band performances, puppet shows and other entertainment programs.

Conservation garden

In order to protect the wild birds, the park set up a nature conservation garden behind the mosque. In terms of daily horticultural maintenance, the principle of natural ecology is adopted. In addition to reducing the use of chemicals and pruning trees as much as possible, dead leaves will also be retained to protect the habitat of birds.

Yiqufang stall
