Xiongyue botanical garden is one of the earliest botanical gardens in China, with the most complete introduction of northern tree species, and has a certain influence at home and abroad. It is known as "Asia miniature herbarium". Xiongyue arboretum has become one of the arboretum in northern China which has preserved the woody plant germplasm resources in Yanbei area.

Xiongyue botanical garden has preserved more than 500 species of 62 families, 152 genera and rare trees from Asia, Europe and America. For example, Ginkgo biloba and Metasequoia glyptostroboides, which are well-known as living fossils at home and abroad, and Magnolia tiannv, yulinghua, Liriodendron spinosa, diaocarpus sylvestris in Sanya, are rare species Acanthopanax senticosus, Eucommia ulmoides and lacquer trees with high economic value, as well as sprouting pine, North American tree pine, West Yellow Pine, short leaf pine, fat pine, European spruce, torch tree, Liriodendron chinense, Magnolia officinalis, silver maple, red Quercus, cork oak, marsh oak and European birch introduced from abroad, have become the unique trees in the garden.

In May 2017, Xiongyue botanical garden failed to meet the corresponding standard of "classification and evaluation of quality grades of tourist attractions", and Liaoning Provincial Tourism Resources Planning and development quality evaluation committee decided to cancel its 4A qualification.

Development history

Xiongyue botanical garden is located in the southeast of Xiongyue Town, Bayuquan District, Yingkou City, Liaoning Province, at the intersection of Wangershan street and xiongyuehe Road, facing Wangershan in the East and Bohai Bay in the West. Xiongyue botanical garden was founded in 1915. The expansion project of the new garden was started in April 2008 and completed in May 2009, with a total investment of 95 million yuan.

Xiongyue botanical garden consists of two parts: the original garden and the new garden, covering a total area of 270167 square meters, including 58461 square meters of the original garden and 211706 square meters of the new garden. It is planned to be divided into four parts: water landscape area, plant viewing area, fruit picking area and ecological catering area. There are many different trees in the garden. They are full of ancient trees, shade, bird song and fragrant wood.

Tracing back to famous trees

In Xiongyue arboretum, it is said that Japanese Magnolia officinalis was introduced from Hokkaido in 1958. It belongs to Magnoliaceae family. It has straight stem, big and fragrant flowers. It is a valuable ornamental tree species. Larix kaempferi is one of the top five ornamental pines in the world. Larix kaempferi is native to Zhejiang Province Pinus bungeana, also known as Pinus Hupi and Pinus bungeana, is one of the top ten famous pines in China. Its bark is mottled and its peeling place is white. North American arbor pine is an evergreen tree species introduced from Canada by the Japanese in 1918. Its needles are slender, soft and full of spring. It has high ornamental value. The dawn of Xiongyue Arboretum is so gentle, and the dusk of Xiongyue Arboretum is so peaceful. The whole garden is composed of two parts: the specimen garden and the specimen forest. It can be said that the scenery of Xiongyue arboretum presents a very different beauty in different days.

In early spring, it is located in Nanyuan, where the specimen forest in Northeast China is mainly cultivated, full of vitality. There are 15 kinds of afforestation tree species mainly distributed here, each of which is planted in pieces, forming a small forest area. In Xiongyue arboretum, we saw many tree species, such as: Pinus armandii, Metasequoia glyptostroboides, Evodia rutaecarpa, Pinus germinating, Magnolia grandiflora, Dengtai tree, Lysimachia christinae, Bauhinia chinensis, Pinus bungeana, Taxus cuspidata, Ginkgo biloba, rose, cherry, Magnolia tiannv and other excellent tree species.

In late autumn, it is located in Beiyuan, a tree specimen garden composed of 24 districts, which is magnificent. In addition to the northeast, there are more tree species from North America. Among the nearly 30 species of pine collected, 1 / 5 are native to North America, especially Pinus densiflora and Pinus thunbergii. They are magnificent, with a height of about 20 meters and a diameter at breast height of about 50 cm. Among the 17 species of Quercus, 4 species are native to North America, which are rare in the garden.

From the South Garden to the North Garden, a picture of "stillness" and "movement" is highlighted. Walking in the arboretum, there are flowers blooming, birds singing and songs flying. We seem to see our youth and feel our desire. How beautiful the warbler song in the birdcage is on the roadside and the canopy of the tree! All the birds here are protected, just like the trees in the herbarium here, whether they are precious, rare, ordinary or common. Like sparrow, can be regarded as one of the most common but common birds. The swaying forest, the whirling green waves, is so thick; the rich trees, the joyful birdsong, is so affectionate. This kind of "massiness" and "deep feeling" is actually the best embodiment of garden artistic conception in people's hearts. To be sure, it reminds me that Chang Jian, a poet of Tang Dynasty, once wrote such two popular poems: "winding paths lead to secluded places, and Zen houses have deep flowers and trees.". Because it is also a work of describing Zen garden, it is the most appropriate way to describe the characteristics of Xiongyue Arboretum. In essence, it can integrate the reclusion of Zen and the reclusion of literati, which is kind and natural, and can make people trace back to the ideological source of advocating nature and the unity of man and nature, which is exactly where the cultural value of Xiongyue arboretum lies.
