Zhou Enlai's former residence

Zhou Enlai's former residence is located behind Sanming county government and on the left side of Lotus Hotel. From the autumn of 1932 to the winter of 1933, it was not only the former residence of Comrade Zhou Enlai in Jianning, but also the former site of the General Political Department of the first front army of the Red Army. The museum was restored and opened in 1978. It is a key cultural relic protection unit in Fujian Province and a patriotic education base for young people. This is a two-story building with horse gallery. The wood is solid and the white walls are bright. Therefore, it is commonly known as "Xiaobai building".

In October 1932, Chiang Kai Shek concentrated 630000 troops to launch the Fourth Military "encirclement and suppression" against the central revolutionary base. In order to smash the "encirclement and suppression" campaign, the first, third and fifth regiments of the first front army of the Red Army and the 22nd army of the red army gathered around Guangchang. On October 12, Zhou Enlai and Zhu De presided over a military conference and formulated the campaign plan for the first front army of the workers' and peasants' Red Army. According to the plan, on October 16, Zhou Enlai and Zhu De led the Red Army to march in five directions to Jianning and Lichuan. On October 18, the red army launched an attack on Jianning city. The second regiment of Zhou Zhiqun brigade was defeated by the Red Army and fled to Taining. More than 400 people were captured in this battle. After the Red Army captured Jianning, it took advantage of the victory to pursue Meikou of Taining, killed the KMT county magistrate of Jianning, and seized a number of weapons and ammunition. On the same day, the red army occupied Lichuan, and then quickly liberated a large area of Taining and Jiangle, achieving the brilliant result of "great victory on the north line, occupying three cities in a row". At that time, Zhu De, Zhou Enlai and Ye Jianying led the general headquarters of the first front army of the Red Army and Yang Shangkun to live on the "Xiaobailou", where they commanded the Red Army's operations, made the Soviet Area of jiantaili develop rapidly, led the masses to carry out the agrarian revolution and develop the economy, and made contributions to consolidating and expanding the Soviet area.

Walking into the "old house"

Let's first visit the first part (rooms 1-3) downstairs, which is mainly composed of photos. More than 200 photos of Comrade Zhou Enlai's glorious life are mainly displayed in this downstairs.

Room 1: here are some photos of Zhou Enlai from the age of 12 (1909) to 49 (1946).

Room 2: on display are some photos of Comrade Zhou Enlai's transition to the north and the South and the first National People's Congress held in September 1954.

Room 3: on display are pictures of Comrade Zhou Enlai's speech at the first National People's Congress and his speech at the Ninth National Congress of the Communist Party of China in April 1969. The fifth is a photo of Zhou Enlai inspecting the navy in Southeast Fujian in 1957, which has never been published in China. 

Room 4: on display are some photos of Zhou Enlai's work, study and life from 1970 to the later period, as well as some photos of the people mourning the premier. Visit the war room. On display are some of the objects of Comrade Zhou Enlai's revolutionary practice in Jianning.

Room 1: this room is the residence of Comrade Yang Shangkun. In October 1932, Comrade Yang Shangkun marched into Jianning with the headquarters of the first front army of the Red Army. In January 1933, Comrade Yang Shangkun, then director of the General Political Department, moved here and left in December of the same year.

Room 2: this room displays some physical objects of the red front army in the north line operations.

Room 3: the room displays photos of the former sites of the headquarters of the 1st, 3rd, 5th and 9th corps of the Red Army, as well as the actual grenades and copies of documents made by the Nanmen arsenal of Jianning. 

Room 4: the room displays the photos of the founding of the "Fujian Jiangxi Revolutionary Committee" and some leaders of the former site and the first front army of the Red Army.

Unforgettable history

Although the photos and objects displayed in the old house are simple, and this period of time may be far away for us, it is a touching and unforgettable history of blood and fire. This history is inseparable from our life today. The visit to Comrade Zhou Enlai's former residence will enable us to better understand this period of history, remember this period of history, and better cherish and grasp our hard won today.

The prime minister's spirit will be carried forward for generations to come.
