geographical position

The area is characterized by steep terrain, dense forest, narrow roads and inconvenient transportation. Because of the special natural and geographical environment, Wuzhi Mountain is easy to defend and difficult to attack. Although it is not conducive to mechanized forces and large regiments in combat, it is conducive to the mobility and concealment of small groups of forces and the conduct of guerrilla warfare, and can often win by surprise. Wuzhi Mountain is located in the tropical rain forest area, which is one of the grain producing areas in Hainan Island. Even if it is completely closed, it can provide sufficient food and material supply through simple reproduction.
strategic significance
The Li and Miao compatriots live in Wuzhi Mountain area. The Kuomintang's long-term reactionary rule and national oppression resulted in their strong spirit of resistance and revolutionary demands. All these provided conditions for the CPC QiongYa special committee to establish and develop Wuzhishan central revolutionary base in the late period of the Anti Japanese War and the war of liberation.
During the period of the great revolution, the local Party organizations in QiongYa went deep into Wuzhi Mountain area to carry out revolutionary struggle and spread revolutionary fire. After the outbreak of the Anti Japanese War, the Li and Miao people in Wuzhishan quickly joined the ranks of the great Anti Japanese national war together with the people of all nationalities in the country.
On November 7, 1940, the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee clearly instructed QiongYa to establish Wuzhishan revolutionary base, pointed out that "the mountains around Wuzhishan will be our reliable base for the long-term Anti Japanese War", and demanded that QiongYa "take the mountain areas as the consolidated rear area of our army",
In August 1943, Li leaders Wang Guoxing and Wang Yujin launched the "Baisha uprising", sent people to look for our army and our party in QiongYa, took the initiative to accept the leadership of the Communist Party of China, and created conditions for the establishment of Wuzhishan revolutionary base. Our party and our army immediately marched into Wuzhi Mountain area.
In the spring of 1947, the leading organs of the party, government and army of QiongYa entered Maogui and concentrated their forces to open up the Wuzhishan revolutionary base.
On April 19, the Central Military Commission sent a telegram to QiongYa special committee: "the preliminary establishment of QiongYa base in Wuzhishan is a great victory.".
From October 20 to November 30, QiongYa independent column held the first military Congress in Maozhan Village (now Maoyang Town, Wuzhishan City). During the meeting, the Central Military Commission telegraphed that the independent column of QiongYa guerrillas in Guangdong Province would be named QiongYa column of the Chinese people's Liberation Army.
In January 1948, Baoting county was liberated.
On June 6, Ledong County was liberated. The liberated areas of Baisha, Ledong and Baoting were linked together, and Wuzhishan revolutionary base was built in an all-round way. Maogui became the revolutionary base of QiongYa. The Party committee of QiongYa district and the headquarters of QiongYa column planned, launched and directed three offensive campaigns in Maogui in the autumn of 1948, the spring of 1949 and the summer of 1949, and welcomed our army's Cross Sea campaign to liberate Hainan Island. Therefore, it is known as "Xibaipo of Hainan".
significance
The establishment of the Wuzhishan revolutionary base is a great achievement of the QiongYa special committee, proceeding from the reality of the struggle in QiongYa and correctly following the instructions of the Party Central Committee. He put an end to the long history of QiongYa's revolutionary struggle without a stable mountain base, so that our party and our army in QiongYa really took the initiative in the war.
As Feng Baiju commented: "although the establishment of Wuzhishan base was not long ago, it played an important role in supporting and developing the later Hainan people's revolutionary war. Without the establishment of this base area, we would not have won great victories in the autumn and spring of 1948 and 1949. Without the establishment of this base area, it would be very difficult or impossible for us to cope with the attack of the overwhelming power of the Kuomintang on the eve of liberation. It can also be said that without the establishment of this base area, it would be very important for us to cooperate with the army in the sea crossing and landing operations The task of releasing Hainan will not only be affected, but may not even play a significant role. "
Wuzhishan is the holy land of Hainan QiongYa revolution. Wuzhishan revolutionary base witnessed Hainan's agrarian revolution, anti Japanese War, liberation war and Kuomintang communist cooperation. The establishment of Wuzhishan revolutionary base not only played a positive role in ensuring the smooth progress of QiongYa liberation war and the victory of Hainan revolution, but also set up immortal meritorious deeds for Hainan's liberation.
