Guqiaolou is a palace style three storey Pavilion building. There are stone steps on both sides of the lower floor, and a pedestrian passage in the middle. On the two walls of the passage, there are 26 wooden columns standing symmetrically, commonly known as "24 pillars to the sky" (because the two in the middle were originally built in the door wall). The qiaolou was first built in the Xuanhe period of Song Dynasty. The existing ancient qiaolou basically maintains the architectural style of Song Dynasty, especially the "Pai Ge Zhu", which is the authentic "construction method" of Song Dynasty. It is hard to see today. It is said that in ancient times, there was a magistrate Kuang who thought he knew geomantic geography. In order to control the mountains which he thought were unlucky, he built this imperial Pavilion right in front of Huizhou mansion. It is said that in order to distinguish him from the tower of the imperial city of Beijing, he specially built two fewer columns and erected only 26. But even so, he was sued by the emperor, saying that he was equal to the emperor. As a result, the smart magistrate Kuang was tortured to death by skinning and offering leather for the crime of deceiving the king. Today, this unique ancient Qiao building is the site of Shexian Museum. The museum displays the cultural relics of Shexian from different dynasties, including calligraphy and painting, porcelain, Sheyan, etc
