General Chen Jiongming's residence

General Chen Jiongming's mansion is located on the east side of Boyue Street (opposite Haifeng Hotel) in Haicheng City. The main building is a double-storey building with five rooms in width. It sits in the north and south. There are wing rooms on the East, West and north sides, and a two-story Pavilion style sentry room is built in the East and West. In front of the main building is a courtyard garden with a pavilion in the center. The total area is 2700 square meters. The general's mansion was built when Chen Jiongming was the commander-in-chief of the Guangdong army.

The general's office is now the center for veteran cadres' activities. The younger generation do not know the background of this characteristic building.

Architectural features

General house, located on the east side of boyue street in Shanwei, is opposite to the former residence No. 25-27. In 1919, his uncle presided over the construction of the general's mansion in the ancestral estate, which was undertaken by Zhangzhou architects. The main building is a three storey western style building with three rooms 17 meters wide and 25 meters deep, covering an area of 425 square meters. The front porch of the upstairs and downstairs is a column arch structure. Sitting north to south, there is a back garden behind the building, 10 meters long and 25 meters wide. The East and west sides of the building are separated by alleys, which are surrounded by cement structure balcony rooms. A double-layer small attic style sentry room is built at the East and West corners of the building. An overpass is built between the two sentry rooms. The guards can walk back and forth between the sentry room and the balcony of the East and West Wing rooms. In front of the main building is a courtyard garden with a pavilion in the center. In the west of the pavilion, there are rockeries, flowers and grasses; in the east of the pavilion, there are fish ponds, willows and other trees; in the north and south of the pavilion, stone roads are laid, leading to the main entrance of the main building in the north and the main entrance of the reception hall in the south. There is a small garden in front of the west gate of the reception hall. The west wall of the garden has a round gate and faces boyue street. The gate is decorated with western style lines and patterns. The former residence covers a total area of 2700 square meters. Chen Jiongming and his wife Huang e (Yun) live in the front room on the east side of the second floor, while his mother Mrs. Yang lives in the back room on the east side. In the west front room are the bedrooms of the second daughter Biyao and the fifth daughter Meiyao; in the back room are the residence of the eldest son dingxia and the nanny. In front of the building, the east side is occupied by his uncle and aunt pan, and the back room is used as a study; in the west side are two rooms for the eldest daughter, the third daughter, the fourth daughter and their son-in-law. The wing rooms on both sides are used as workers' and guards' houses.
