Quanzhou Overseas Transportation History Museum has been the only Maritime Museum in China for nearly half a century since its establishment in 1959. As a collection of cultural relics, it shows the navigation and transportation history of the Chinese nation and the historical scene of the integration of different civilizations in the world, and enjoys international reputation. In China's application for the "maritime Silk Road" world cultural heritage project, as a designated Exhibition Center, Haijiao Pavilion also plays an important role. In September 1983, sun Yiqing, director of the State Administration of cultural relics, listed Haijiao Museum as one of the seven most distinctive museums in China.
The museum has also successfully created a museum mode of "one museum, one meeting, one journal", that is, the museum, together with the China Overseas Transportation History Research Association (the Secretariat of which is located in the Museum), CO sponsored the national periodical of "Research on the history of maritime transportation" and released it to the public at home and abroad. It has gathered the strength of experts and scholars at home and abroad, making the museum an important base for the study of the history of China's maritime relations.
