Zeng Gong Temple

During the reign of Tongzhi, salt merchants built Zeng Gong temple at 20 Kangshan street to commemorate Zeng Guofan, governor of Liangjiang and concurrently in charge of salt administration. Zeng Guofan was not only an important official of the imperial court, but also a backer of salt merchants. Zenggong temple was approved by the imperial court and invested by salt merchants. Now there is a lane at 20 Kangshan street, which is called zenggong Temple Lane. Today, Zeng Gong temple has preserved the gate tower, hall and photo hall.

Zeng Gong Temple

Zeng Gong temple is located in Qinhuai District of Nanjing city. It is a special temple for Zeng Guoquan. It was built in 1891. During the period of the national government, it was used as the meeting site of the Mongolian Tibetan Committee. During the period of Japanese occupation, it was used as the meeting site of Anqing alliance. It was changed into a school after 1949.

Introduction to history

Zenggong temple is located at No.8 jiutiaoxiang, Qinhuai District, Nanjing city. It is adjacent to jiutiaoxiang in the front and eight lanes in the back. It faces south in the north, between Zhongshan South Road and Hongwu Road. After a hundred years of vicissitudes, zenggong temple is the North Campus of Nanjing Zhongying middle school, as the administrative office area of the school.

The East and west sides of Zeng Gong ancestral hall are the houses of Zeng's descendants. Especially on both sides, there is a garden in the backyard, and the rockery and pond buildings in the garden are very popular. Unfortunately, after the Japanese occupation of Nanjing, this part of the building was changed into a funeral home. After many changes, it is now part of the site of the color printing factory, and the garden no longer exists.

In 1982, the zenggong ancestral hall was designated as a cultural relic protection unit in Nanjing, and the government has repeatedly allocated funds for maintenance. The wing rooms on both sides have been reconstructed in an antique way. In the yard, trees and flowers are planted, rockeries are built, and pools are built, making it a garden like quiet and elegant campus.

building structure

At the entrance of the first entrance, there is a ten meter high "eight" shaped carved brick archway. The top of the "mountain" shaped ridge is covered with tubular tiles, and under the cornice is a brick carved bucket arch. Two round stone arches are on both sides of the gate, and the arc gate is tall and spectacular. The second entrance is the main hall, and the last entrance is the main hall, all of which are five bay tall buildings. The ridge of the main hall is more than 10 meters high, with fish dragon patterns carved on the brackets. There are 30 round red pillars in the main hall, which are majestic and magnificent.

Three into the three rooms of the house, with an interval of 24 meters, form two roughly square yards, and use evergreen stones to build passages in the yard. There are square bricks on the ground of the main hall. According to the records, under the square bricks, a large array was used as the base for moisture-proof. The back hall was originally equipped with carved eaves, painted buildings, carved windows and floor lattice doors and windows. There are two verandahs and an ambulatory in each entrance. The ambulatory now has 48 vermilion columns.

On the whole, the site is 99 meters long and 51 meters wide, covering an area of 5049 square meters, with a construction area of 6857.4 square meters and 35 houses. The main building is the hall with three entrances of brick and wood structure, which is divided into front, middle and back three entrances and two courtyards. It has typical architectural style of Qing Dynasty.

Anecdotes and allusions

The right niche of Zeng Gong ancestral hall is Yang Gong. Left niche an Zhenwu second general seat. Side an Zeng Gong. There are four characters on the plaque, big book and Zeng's ancestral hall. The first couplet: Wucheng Shijun flows through the ages, Emperor que chongenyao bullfight. The front gate is inscribed with a big book, the ancestral hall of Zeng family, eight characters, the big book of Zeng Gong ancestral hall, and dunben hall.
