Introduction to scenic spots
Hu Shi's former residence was built {1877 ~ 1880} from the third year to the sixth year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty. It was built by Hu Tiehua, the father of Mr. Hu Shi (official name: Hu Chuan, formerly named Shoushan or Shan Shan, Tiehua was named by himself).
There are patios in the vestibule, wing rooms on both sides, tongzhuanlou upstairs and the main hall downstairs. The back door is the inner court, with the fence and partition. It is exquisitely carved. A pair of lotus fairies are lifelike on the beam. The doors and windows are decorated with orchid carving boards. It is made by Hu Guobin, the mold making teacher of hukai Wenmo village. It reflects Hu Shi's strong local feeling and style of "I come from the mountains and bring orchid grass". It was turned into an nunnery.
In front of the gate and in the main hall are two gold lettered plaques with black background, which are inscribed by the famous calligrapher Sha Menghai. The furnishings in the hall are as old as before. In the room where Mr. Hu Shi used to get married, there was a "Moon Palace bed" painted with red lacquer and gold. It was rich and elegant, decorated with Hui Style and carved with various operas, flowers and birds. A small red lacquer box with the word "Gaoming" engraved on the top of the bed forehead. It is a relic of Hu tie Hua, Hu Shi's father. On the right side of the bed, a Hu Tiehua sword was hung. Hu Shi's family letters are displayed in the two rooms, as well as many calligraphy and paintings donated by celebrities in modern society.
Turning around the main hall is the back hall, with a small patio in the middle. On the small hall, there is a large red gold plaque with the four characters "Chijie Xuanwei". It was given by the national government when Hu Shi was the ambassador of the United States.
