In 1952, the Northeast fisheries technical school was founded. On the basis of the two classes of fishery and processing in Jinzhou agricultural technical school, it accepted junior high school graduates from Xingcheng County, 116 students from Dalian and Shenyang and 6 overseas Chinese students, and formed four professional subjects of fishing, breeding, processing and marine engineering.

In March 1953, the school was led by the Fisheries Bureau of Luda city; in June, the government of Luda city officially appointed Xing Weizhen, director of the Fisheries Bureau of Luda City, as the principal. In September of the same year, with the approval of the Agricultural Bureau of the Northeast administrative committee, the school was renamed Dalian Fisheries school.

In 1958, Dalian Fisheries school was upgraded to Dalian Fisheries College.

In 1960, Dalian Fisheries College was renamed Dalian Fisheries College of Liaoning Province.

In 1963, Dalian Fisheries College of Liaoning Province was renamed Dalian Fisheries College.

In 1975, Dalian Fisheries College, LvDa Fisheries College and Liaoning Marine Fisheries Research Institute merged to form LvDa Fisheries College.

In 1977, Dalian Fisheries College (formerly part of Dalian Fisheries College) was resumed.

In 1978, Dalian Fisheries College was upgraded to Dalian Fisheries College.

In 1986, the University obtained the right to confer master's degree, and the Propaganda Department of Liaoning provincial Party committee approved the establishment of Journal of Dalian Fisheries University.

In 1998, the university successfully passed the Ministry of education undergraduate teaching qualification evaluation.

In 2000, the school was transferred from the Ministry of agriculture to Liaoning Province.

In 2008, the University achieved "excellent" results in the undergraduate teaching evaluation of the Ministry of education.

Liaoning Agricultural Engineering School

In 1973, Liaoning Agricultural Mechanization School was transformed into Liaoning Agricultural College (agricultural mechanization branch).

In 1975, Liaoning Agricultural College (agricultural mechanization branch), Agricultural Machinery Research Institute, agricultural machinery school, agricultural science institute and agricultural technology training class of LvDa merged to form LvDa agricultural college.

In 1977, the Agricultural College of LvDa was abolished.

In 1978, LvDa Agricultural College (the former part of Liaoning Agricultural Mechanization School) was transformed into Liaoning Agricultural Mechanization School.

In 1986, Liaoning Agricultural Mechanization School was renamed Liaoning Agricultural Engineering School.

In August 2000, Liaoning Agricultural Engineering School was incorporated into Dalian Fisheries College, and Dalian Fisheries College Vocational and technical college was established.

 

Upgrade and rename

In 2010, Dalian Fisheries University changed its name to Dalian Ocean University. In March, the people's Government of Liaoning Province signed an agreement with the State Oceanic Administration to jointly build Dalian Ocean University. At the end of the year, the school signed a relocation project agreement with Dalian puwan new area and decided to build a new campus in Dalian puwan new area.

In February 2014, the vocational and Technical College of Dalian Ocean University changed its name to College of Applied Technology of Dalian Ocean University. In October, the University was selected as one of the first batch of National Pilot Universities for the reform of excellent agriculture and forestry talents education and training plan.

In January 2017, the University was selected as the "domestic high-level university key construction university" among the first-class university key construction universities in Liaoning Province.

 

In August, with the approval of the Ministry of education, the University was granted the postgraduate qualification.
