City University of Hong Kong is a public university funded by the government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. It was founded in 1984. School history
In November 1980, Sir Edward Youde, the governor of Hong Kong, appointed a committee to review Hong Kong's tertiary and industrial education. In June 1981, the Committee suggested that in order to adapt to the development of the times, Hong Kong should strengthen its post-secondary education in an all-round way and immediately start planning for a second polytechnic.
In June 1982, members of the Council of the Hong Kong Polytechnic were appointed members of the Preparatory Committee for the second polytechnic, and Sir Stephen Chung was formally appointed chairman of the Preparatory Committee.
In May 1982, the University and Polytechnic Grants Committee held its first meeting in London, and then submitted the report No. 1 of the Second Polytechnic. It proposed that the new Polytechnic should be named "City Polytechnic of Hong Kong". It also believed that the new Polytechnic should be located in Hong Kong, referring to the practice of the United Kingdom In densely populated areas accessible by major transport networks, permanent school buildings will be built on a 12 hectare site in Kowloon Tong. At the same time, the committee decided that the temporary school should be opened as soon as possible in 1984-85, pending the completion of the permanent school.

In 1984, the City Polytechnic of Hong Kong was established in Mongkok, Kowloon, under the City Polytechnic Ordinance, chapter 1132 of the laws of Hong Kong. The earliest school buildings were located in today's trade and Industry Department building in Mong Kok.
After the completion of the permanent school building on Yau Tsuen Tat Chee Road, Kowloon Tong, new school buildings have been gradually moved in since 1990, and the original school buildings have been transferred to the Open Learning Institute of Hong Kong for school use. The school was granted land by the government to use the site of the temporary housing area in yuangehe old street as the address of the future student dormitory.
In 1995, he was awarded the self accrediting qualification by the government and was renamed "City University of Hong Kong".
In 1997, a branch of Kowloon Bay was set up at the former Wellington secondary school to provide a special venue for students of self funded associate degree, wing project and Yi Jin project.
On November 1, 2014, the City University of Hong Kong fund was established to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the founding of the University.
On June 19, 2018, the general office of the Ministry of Education approved the cooperation between East China University of political science and law and City University of Hong Kong to hold the undergraduate education project of law major, and terminated the operation.
