Historical evolution

Three predecessors

The third normal school of Hunan Province

In 1904, Hunan Guanli South Road normal school was established.

In 1912, Hunan Guanli South Road normal school was renamed Hunan Provincial Third Normal School.

In 1927, the third normal school of Hunan Province was closed.

In 1928, the third normal school of Hunan Province resumed and changed its name to the Fifth Middle School of Hunan Province.

In 1934, the Fifth Middle School of Hunan Province was renamed Hengyang Middle School of Hunan Province.

In 1944, Hengyang battle broke out and the school was cancelled.

In 1947, Hengyang Middle School of Hunan Province was resumed.

In 1953, Hengyang middle school in Hunan Province was renamed Hengyang Normal School.

In 1962, Hengyang Normal School was renamed the third normal school of Hunan Province.

Hengyang Teachers College

In 1958, with the approval of the Ministry of education, Hengyang Teachers College was established.

In 1970, the school was closed because of the cultural revolution.

In 1973, Hengyang Teachers College resumed.

In 1993, the school was upgraded and renamed Hengyang Normal College.

Hengyang Institute of Education

In 1980, Hengyang Teachers Training College was founded.

In 1984, Hengyang Teachers' training college was incorporated into Hengyang Teachers' training college.

In 1991, Hengyang Teachers Training College was renamed Hengyang education college.

Merging schools

In March 1999, with the approval of the Ministry of education of the people's Republic of China, Hengyang Normal College and Hengyang Institute of education were merged and upgraded to Hengyang Normal College.

In February 2001, Hunan Provincial Third Normal School and Hengyang Normal University merged to form a new Hengyang Normal University.

In 2006, the University passed the undergraduate teaching evaluation of the Ministry of education with "excellent" results.

In 2013, the University became one of the first batch of collaborative innovation center construction plans in Hunan Province (Hunan 2011 plan).

In 2015, the University was successfully selected into the first batch of cooperative universities of the Ministry of education ZTE ICT industry education integration innovation base from 2015 to 2020, and became a member of the national "Applied Technology University (College) alliance".

In March 2018, it was selected into the first batch of "new engineering" research and practice projects of the Ministry of education. In May, the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council approved the University as a master's degree awarding unit.
