Hainan University is located in Haikou, the capital of Hainan Province, a national historical and cultural city. It is a comprehensive key university of Hainan Province. The campus covers a total area of more than 5200 mu. It is a University jointly built by the Ministry of education and the Ministry of finance of Hainan Province. It is a key construction University of the national "211 Project". The national excellent engineer education and training plan, the national excellent legal personnel education and training plan, and the national "comprehensive strength enhancement project of universities in the central and western regions" are selected as the main members of the "central and Western University Alliance".

Historical evolution

Private Hainan University

On June 9, 1946, the mayor of Guangzhou, Chen CE, invited Hainan people to gather together and decided to set up the Preparatory Committee for private Hainan University.

On April 1, 1947, the Preparatory Committee approved the founding plan of Hainan University, which was developed by Liang Dapeng. The plan consists of three parts: description, equipment and budget estimate. The plan outlines the scale, means and process of Hainan University in the future.

In November 1947, private Hainan University was founded. The school is located in Shawei coconut garden of Haikou City, covering an area of more than 500 mu.

May, 1948. The "board of directors of private Hainan University" was established by private Hainan University, which elected 15 directors including Song Ziwen as the chairman.

In the autumn of 1950, Hainan art college was incorporated into the Art Department of Hainan University.

In March 1951, he took over the private Hainan University and moved it to the northwest street of Fucheng town to continue its operation. At the same time, he founded the Haihai branch of Nanfang University.

In March 1952, he moved to Baipo, jinniuling, Haikou.

In 1953, Hainan Branch of Nanfang University was closed.

 

South China Tropical Agricultural University

In 1954, the former South China Institute of tropical forestry was founded in Guangzhou.

In 1956, it was changed into South China Tropical Crops Research Institute under the leadership of the Ministry of agriculture and reclamation.

In May 1958, he moved to Danzhou and renamed Hainan Branch of South China Agricultural University.

On July 8, 1959, Hainan Branch of South China Agricultural University was officially renamed as South China Institute of tropical crops.

In 1964, the school's Research Institute was expanded into "South China Institute of Tropical Crop Science". The school and the research institute implemented a system of two brands of one team.

In 1966, when the "Cultural Revolution" began, schools suffered a huge impact and organizations at all levels were paralyzed.

In 1969, the school was taken over by the production and Construction Corps of Guangzhou Military Region.

In 1970, the South China Institute of tropical crops was led by the Guangzhou Military Region. The school was transformed into the Corps tropical crops school to train grassroots technicians for the Corps.

In December 1972, Guangdong Province restored the original name of South China Institute of tropical crops and the system of institutions of higher learning, and recruited workers, peasants and soldiers in the next year.

In 1979, Guangdong Province restored the leadership system before the "Cultural Revolution".

After the establishment of Hainan Province in 1988, the college was led by the Ministry of agriculture and Hainan Province.

In 1996, South China Institute of tropical crops was renamed "South China Tropical Agricultural University".

 

Former Hainan University

In 1981, the Hainan Administrative Region Committee decided to set up Hainan University and submitted it to Guangdong Province and the State Council for approval.

In 1982, Guangdong Province agreed to establish the Preparatory Committee of Hainan University.

On May 10, 1983, the State Council officially approved the establishment of Hainan University on the basis of the former Hainan Normal College, Hainan Medical College and Hainan Agricultural College (Hainan Agricultural College). Hu Yaobang, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, inscribed the name of the school.

 

 

In November 1986, the Ministry of normal education became independent and Hainan Normal University was established again.

At the beginning of 1989, Hainan Medical College was established.

In 1990, the Committee of the Ministry of education of the State Council and the State Education Commission approved Hainan University as an institution conferring bachelor's degrees.

 

 

In 2005, the University was rated as excellent in the undergraduate teaching evaluation of the Ministry of education, and was approved to set up the National College Students' cultural quality education base.

 

New Hainan University

On August 14, 2007, Hainan University and South China University of Tropical Agriculture merged to form a new Hainan University;

In November of the same year, the Laos branch of Hainan University was established in the Bassa Institute of technology in Vientiane, Laos.

 

In 2018, the University was selected as the "ministry province joint construction" University and ranked in the universities directly under the Ministry of education.

 

In September 2019, the signing ceremony of the strategic cooperation agreement between Hainan University and Huawei Technology Co., Ltd. was held in Huawei Shenzhen base.

 

In April 2020, the "national security research center of Hainan University" jointly built by the National Security Committee of the provincial Party committee and the University was inaugurated.
