Chongzhen Hall
Chongzhen church is the oldest existing Christian Church in Wuhan, China. Chongzhen church is located at No. 44, gejiaying, Wuchang District. It was built in 1864 by Yang Gefei, a missionary of the London church. It is the first Christian Church in Wuchang. Gothic style, sharp window, can hold 200 people. In 1958, the staff of Chongzhen hall in Gejia camp were incorporated into hanyangmen life hall, and the house was changed into a paper factory warehouse. Worship resumed in November 2000. In 2005, it was listed as the second batch of excellent historical buildings in Wuhan.
It is located at No. 44, Gejia camp, Wuchang. The church originally belonged to the Chinese Christian Church. The main body of the building is a single story Gothic building with Latin cross shape, which can hold 400 people for worship. It has been nearly 140 years since its completion and opening in 1864. In 1855, the missionary Yang Gefei was sent to China by the London church. At that time, Wuchang was the residence of the governor of Huguang and the political and cultural center of central China. Yang Gefei knew that it was of special significance to enter Wuchang if he wanted to successfully preach in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River. He then mobilized the believers to apply to the Wuchang government for the establishment of the church, and then, with the assistance of the British Consul in China, he repeatedly negotiated with the government on the basis of the relevant provisions of the Treaty of Beijing. In July 1864, the government was forced to allow Yang Gefei to buy land to build the hall in gejiaying, Wuchang. Chongzhen hall is always held by a Chinese priest. Bao tingzhang, the first Tang mu. In 1951, Tang Mu Zeng Xianyou established Wuchang branch of "three self" Innovation Learning Association in Chongzhen hall, which became one of the "three self" learning centers in Wuchang. After the implementation of United worship in 1958, the religious activities of Chongzhen hall were completely terminated, and its building was later used as the warehouse of the paper factory. In November 2000, Chongzhen hall resumed its religious activities.
