Hu Shi Memorial
It consists of former residence, exhibition room and cemetery. The former residence of Academia Sinica is a one story bungalow with white walls and blue windows. The interior furnishings keep the original appearance of Hu Shi when he was alive. The exhibition room adjacent to his former residence was donated by his American friend Mr. Li Dai in 1964. It displays Hu Shi's emotional world, academic and cultural achievements, Hu Shi and modern China, Hu Shi and Lei Zhen, and some articles, manuscripts and letters used during his lifetime. The cemetery is located on a green hill slope separated from the research institute by a road, far away from the former residence. It's open on Wednesdays and Saturdays, providing a chance for admirers to feel on the spot.
Layout of the Museum
Hu Shi memorial hall is divided into two parts: Hu Shi's former residence and exhibition room. "Hu Shi's former residence" - it still retains the original appearance of that year, so that people can understand the living conditions of Hu Shi at that time. Hu Shi has lived here since 1958 because he was the president of Academia Sinica. It is a flat style small western style house, covering an area of about 50 Ping. Hushi cemetery
Hu Shi's tomb is located on the slope of the middle and south section of jiuzhuang in the northwest of jiuzhuang primary school and east of the second section of research institute road. There stands the statue of Hu Shi,

Profile
Hu Shi (1891-1962), formerly known as Hu Hongxiang, was born in Jixi, Anhui Province. scholar. In 1910, he studied in the United States, entered Cornell University, and then transferred to Columbia University. He studied in Dewey and was deeply influenced by his experimentalist philosophy. At the beginning of 1917, he published "on the improvement of literature" in "New Youth". In 1917, he received his Ph.D. and returned to China in the same year as a professor of Peking University. He participated in the new youth, published papers on the literary concept of history, on the literary revolution of construction, and published a new collection of poems, the collection of attempts, becoming an influential figure in the new culture movement. In 1919, he published "study more problems and talk less about reformism", advocating reformism. In 1920, he left New Youth and founded endeavor weekly. In 1923, he and Xu Zhimo organized the Crescent society. In 1924, he and Chen Xiying, Wang Shijie founded modern review weekly. In 1932, he founded independent review with Jiang ting and Ding Wenjiang. In 1938, he served as ambassador of the national government to the United States. He was president of Peking University in 1946. He left Peiping in 1948 and then moved to the United States. In 1958, he was president of the Academia Sinica in Taiwan. Hu Shi has made great achievements in philosophy, literature, history and textual research of classical literature. His works include Chinese literature in the past 50 years, Hu Shi's literature, history of vernacular literature, textual research on Chinese Chapter novels, etc. Hu Shi's academic activities in his whole life are mainly in the aspects of history, literature and philosophy. His main works include outline of the history of Chinese Philosophy (Part I), collection of attempts, history of Vernacular Literature (Part I) and Hu Shi Wencun (Part IV). His most influential academic method is to advocate "bold hypothesis, careful verification". In his later years, he devoted himself to the textual research of shuijingzhu, but failed to write the final version. He died in Taipei in 1962.
