Su Jiawei
Sujiawei is located in Yihe Town, Heyuan City, Guangdong Province, about 26 kilometers away from Heyuan City. Dongjiang River and jiushe River meet in the south of it. The whole village is surrounded by mountains and waters, green embraces each other, and the environment is beautiful. It has the reputation of "picturesque village in South China". Sujiawei is also a place where Su Dongpo's descendants live. Here, you can not only enjoy the beautiful rural scenery, but also experience the history and culture of the Su family and Hakka people for more than 700 years.
There are 18 enclosed houses in sujiawei village, including five Ming Dynasty buildings. Weiwu, also known as "Weilongwu", is a typical Hakka residential building with Central Plains characteristics. According to the investigation of historians, this kind of residential building is very similar to the Central Plains noble courtyard. Hakka ancestors moved to the south to settle down due to war, famine and other reasons, which not only spread the advanced farming technology of the Central Plains, but also maintained the original traditional style of residential buildings.
The oldest is Yongsi hall built in 1481 to commemorate Su Dongshan, so it is also called Su Gong temple in Dongshan.
Main attractions
Welcome Bridge
Like the Yingke pine in Huangshan, Yingqin bridge is the first scenic spot for tourists to visit sujiawei. It also means that people in sujiawei welcome their friends like relatives. Standing on the bridge, you can see the whole picture of sujiawei. Its folk houses are not the common round dragon houses, but the square "mansion style" houses with the characteristics of Ming and Qing Dynasties. The village's 18 walled houses and hundreds of rooms seem to be put together in a disorderly way, but its drainage system is actually very particular. In sujiawei, even if there is a heavy rain, the rain can be drained away from the culvert of the house, and there is no water. According to the old people in the village, the drainage system of sujiawei is modeled on the jiuqushui water in front of the former residence of Su's ancestors in Ji'an, Jiangxi Province.
Perilla Garden
Some people may ask, Su Dongpo is a native of Meishan, Sichuan. His descendants once moved to Jiangxi, but why did he develop to sujiawei? In the Perilla garden, you can find the answer.
Perilla frutescens, an annual plant of herbaceous family, can be used as medicine. It is often used as spice and side dish by local people in Heyuan. Su Jiawei's perilla is not common coriander, but has special significance. It is said that Su Tianrong, the seventh generation grandson of Su Dongpo, went down to Panyu in 1312 by boat from Luling (Ji'an), Jiangxi Province, to teach in Panyu, where he stayed overnight. That night, he dreamed that five old people instructed him to go ashore to watch a tall and lush perilla, and told him that the place had good geomantic omen, so the Perilla grew so tall. When Su Tianrong wakes up, he feels that perilla has a affinity with his family name, so he has to go ashore to have a look. As a result, he sees a big banyan tree and finds that the surrounding environment is very beautiful. So he suspects that this is the place where the five old people in his dream instruct him to settle down. Later, he was promoted to the magistrate of Fushun County in Sichuan Province, and he never forgot about it. He told his descendants to live here. It was only when his fourth generation sun suxiuhong was appointed to inspect Jingshan (today's Chashan town) in Dongguan that his dream came true. And this perilla garden reposes the memory and admiration of Su Jiawei people for their ancestors.
Yongsitang
Among the 18 ancient dwellings preserved in sujiawei, Yongsi hall is the oldest. It was built in 1481 to commemorate the eighth ancestor of sujiawei, Su Dongshan. Therefore, it is also known as the Su Gong temple in Dongshan. It has always been the place where people in sujiawei hold sacrifices and discuss business.
In ancient times, the architectural style and scale of official houses were particular. Su Dongshan was once the official of Guilin government in Guangxi. This Yongsi hall was built according to his official position and the style of official house style promulgated by Zhu Yuanzhang. The main body of the hall is three buildings. Instead of the common gate facing the hall, it has side doors on both sides. It is said that this is the characteristic of the Hakka residence, because the Hakkas think that it is unlucky to open the door to the hall. The ancients' attention to Yin Yang Feng Shui in architecture can be seen from this.
Yongsi hall has experienced more than 500 years of wind and rain, but it is still quite intact, which is inseparable from its solid building structure and its historical influence and status. It is said that in the autumn of 1947, Ge Xiancai, the commander of the 196th division of the Kuomintang, led his army through Yihe. Regardless of military fatigue, he went straight to yongsitang. When he returned, he immediately ordered: "burning and killing are not allowed in Suwei because of military power, and adultery is not allowed in Yihe because of military music.".
A thousand year old banyan
There are five big banyan trees in sujiawei, which are more than 1000 years old. The most famous of them are Wuxian banyan and Yuanyang banyan. Wuxian banyan is the first banyan that Su Tianrong saw when he went ashore. At that time, there was a Wuxian temple under the tree to commemorate the five old people in Su Tianrong's dream. During the cultural revolution, the Wuxian temple was destroyed and a folk song platform was built here. Hakka girls often sing melodious folk songs in front of the long Dongjiang River. Tourists can learn to sing with Hakka girls and feel the beauty and romance of Hakka people's love by songs.
Yuanyangrong stands beside the river like the patron saint of sujiawei. Its name comes from a beautiful legend: in the Qing Dynasty, a talented woman in Longchuan County escaped from marriage and had nowhere to hide. Finally, I get married with my lover. Later, the talented woman's husband became an official, and they brought a monument named "tree grace unforgettable" to stand in front of the tree.
