Cui Zifan's painting
Cui Zifan (1915-2011) was born in cuijiabu village, Laixi City, Shandong Province. He was fond of fine arts when he was a child. When he was in middle school, he studied Chinese painting with Mr. Zhang Zilian. When the Anti Japanese war broke out, he joined the army and successively held important posts in the party, government and army. After the liberation of the whole country, he took Qi Baishi as his teacher and worked in Beijing Chinese Painting Academy for 23 years until he retired. In 1991, he was rated as "a painter who has made outstanding contributions to culture and art" by the State Council.
Cui Zifan went through a difficult and tortuous road in art. As early as the 1950s, when he asked Qi Baishi for advice with his works, he praised his paintings as "true freehand brushwork". Although he did not enter a professional college, his works attracted the attention of the painting world only after he was 60 years old because of his long-term influence in the academy and his indomitable pursuit of the true meaning of art. Since then, his passion for creation has never stopped. At the age of 70, he carried out a new reform, which made his freehand flower and bird painting enter a higher level and stride to the world. After entering the 1980s, the works have been integrated with the understanding of western modern art. The pen is more bold and clumsy, the ink color is more simple and rich, the modeling is more general and childish, and the composition tends to be decorative, full, bright and full of rhythm.
Life is the source of art. Each of his works, all give people a strong sense of life and rural cordiality, but also has a strong, majestic momentum. This has to do with Cui Zifan's tortuous and rich life experience and his deep love for his motherland and hometown. Over the years, he has donated more than 3 million yuan to the country's education and public welfare undertakings, 122 fine paintings to the China Art Museum and more than 300 fine paintings to Cui Zifan Art Museum. He can't afford to carve this kind of emotion. Instead, he expresses it frankly through the artistic image, making his high-level artistic image and sincere emotional connotation perfectly united, making his works more real, more typical and more shocking. His paintings have a strong flavor of the times and rich connotation, and his art has made China's image flower and bird painting to a new milestone.
