Shidao

Shidao, also known as grasshopper Island, is located 0.7 km northeast of Yongxing Island, which is based on the same pear shaped reef as Yongxing island. With an area of about 0.08 square kilometers and an altitude of 13 meters, it is the highest island in the South China Sea. It is named after the exposure of numerous rocks. It is an island that ordinary people can reach in Paracel Islands except Yongxing island and seven even Lantau Island.

There are many sea erosion caves on the east bank and some trenches deep into the island, one of which is 15m deep; there are two large sea erosion caves on the West Bank; there are also two sea erosion caves on the North Bank of the island, where sediment flow is concentrated, and a sand mouth is formed at the south end of the island. It is now used by the highway connecting Yongxing Island, and it can walk or drive to Yongxing island at low tide. There are only a few shrubs growing in Shidao, which is named for its exposed rocks. The island is irregular in shape. The longest part is more than 400 meters, and the narrowest part is less than 100 meters. It covers an area of 0.08 square kilometers. The highest part is 13 meters above sea level. It is the highest island in the South China Sea. There are residents and houses on the island. Well water is not suitable for drinking. In 1935, 1947 and 1983, they were all named Shidao. In China, fishermen call it Xiaoba island. Some foreign books call it rocky island.

Shidao is located in the Paracel Islands, China's Paracel Islands. It is linked to Yongxing island in the northeast of the same reef. Due to the reclamation project of Yongxing Island, the island has been integrated with Yongxing island!

Shidao

Shidao is located at the southeast end of Jiaodong Peninsula in Shandong Province, bordering on the Yellow Sea. The coastline is 88.5 kilometers long, and is the closest place between Chinese mainland and Korea. It has the largest fishing port in northern China, Shidao fishing port and the first class national open port. There are frequent exchanges between domestic and foreign merchants.

Shidao is surrounded by sea on three sides, with beautiful scenery and pleasant climate. The terrain is high in the West and low in the East. It is mountainous and hilly. In the west, there is Tubu mountain, 411.9 meters above sea level, with steep peaks and crisscross valleys. In the north, there is Yantai Touzi mountain, 339 meters above sea level, with rocks. In the East, there is Shidao Bay, with wide water. In the south, there is Wangjiawan, with calm wind and quiet waves. It is an excellent base for the construction of fishing, commercial and military ports.

Shidao belongs to temperate monsoon humid climate, no severe cold in winter, no heat in summer, warm air. The annual average temperature is 12.1 ℃, the annual average frost free period is 214 days, the annual average sunshine is about 2600 hours, and the annual average rainfall is about 800mm.

Shidao is 45 kilometers away from Weihai International Airport, about 40 minutes' drive; it is 36 kilometers away from Rongcheng station, about 30 minutes' drive. In the area, there are national AAAA scenic spots - Shidao Chishan and Shidao Bay provincial tourist resorts.

Jurisdiction area

Shidao is surrounded by three sides, and its coastline is 88.5 kilometers long. It is the closest Chinese mainland to Korea. With a total area of 260 square kilometers, it has jurisdiction over 6 sub district offices (Gangwan sub district, Chishan sub district, Taoyuan sub district, Dongshan sub district, wanglian sub district and Ningjin sub district), 144 administrative villages and 45 neighborhood committees, with a total population of 200000, including 120000 urban residents.

Gangwan Street: it covers an area of 28 square kilometers and has a population of 90000. It has jurisdiction over 17 rural neighborhood committees and 9 urban neighborhood committees, formerly Shidao town. On January 5, 2005, Gangwan sub district office was set up in the administrative area of yuanshidao town. The office is located in Shidao street. The area has the largest fishing port in northern China, the first class national open port Shidao Port, and the national 4A scenic spot Shidao Chishan scenic spot. It has been rated as "top ten residential streets in Weihai City" and "top 500 towns in China". All kinds of facilities in the area are complete, including Shidao experimental primary school, Shidao experimental middle school and other schools and educational institutions; Bank of China, China Construction Bank, industrial and Commercial Bank of China, Agricultural Bank of China, China CITIC Bank, Minsheng Bank and other more than 20 financial outlets; harbor health center, Shidao orthopedic hospital and other advanced and complete medical facilities; fisherman's Wharf, Jixing shopping mall, Shangyue department store, Jiayue supermarket and so on Large scale shopping malls are within reach.

Chishan Street: it covers an area of 55 square kilometers and has a population of 32000. It has jurisdiction over 3 community neighborhood committees and 25 villages, originally called Chishan town. On June 23, 2000, it was incorporated into Shidao town. On January 5, 2005, Chishan sub district office was set up in the original administrative area of Chishan town. In 2013, Shidao people's Hospital and Rongcheng second middle school moved to Chishan street. There are 148 group companies, village offices and private enterprises in the area, including 92 food processing industries, 25 machinery processing industries, 18 building materials processing industries and 13 other industries. 613 registered self-employed households. The whole street has 19 Enterprises above quota.

Ningjin Street: with an area of 66 square kilometers and a population of 21000. It has jurisdiction over 45 administrative villages, 5 community neighborhood committees and 1 urban neighborhood committee, formerly Ningjin town. In June 2000, the former Ningjin town and the former mukdao town were merged into Ningjin town. On January 5, 2005, Ningjin sub district office was set up in the original administrative region of Ningjin town. The office is located in Ningjin. Surrounded by the sea on three sides, the coastline is more than 110 Li long. The ten mile long beach from malanchu to Dongchu island is a natural bathing beach with blue sea and sand. The linjialiushui reservoir and Xiajia reservoir are the wintering habitats of white swan.

Dongshan Street: with an area of 42 square kilometers and a population of 18000. It has jurisdiction over 31 administrative villages and 1 residents' committee. It used to be Dongshan Town. It is adjacent to Shidao Bay Tourist Resort and Shidao Industrial Park in the south. On April 4, 2001, it was incorporated into Shidao town. On January 5, 2005, Dongshan sub district office was established in the former administrative area of Dongshan Town. The office is located in Dongshan.

Wanglian Street: it covers an area of 49 square kilometers and has a population of 19000. It has jurisdiction over 32 administrative villages and 1 residents' committee. It was originally wanglian town. On April 4, 2001, it was incorporated into Shidao town. On January 5, 2005, wanglian sub district office was set up in the former administrative area of wanglian town. The office is located in Wangjiazhuang.

Taoyuan Street: it covers an area of 17 square kilometers and has a population of 13000. It has jurisdiction over 15 villages and 1 urban neighborhood committee. It was originally Shidaowan development zone. On January 5, 2005, Taoyuan sub district office was established. The office is located in Taoyuan. There are 57 group companies, village run enterprises and private enterprises, including 30 aquatic products processing enterprises, 6 real estate development enterprises, 12 construction enterprises and 9 other industries.

Historical evolution

Shidao has been inhabited since the spring and Autumn period and the Warring States period. During the Sui and Tang Dynasties (chishanpu), it became an important commercial port along the eastern coast, and merchants gathered in the late Ming and early Qing Dynasties. As early as the Song Dynasty (1279), a few fishermen surnamed Wang discovered that the waters near the dock Village of Renhe Town were rich in fishery resources, so they set up a harbor village to be responsible for the berthing and trade of merchant ships. Dock Village got its name from this. As time goes on, the water level decreases year by year, the beach area expands year by year, and the harbor condition is getting worse and worse. At the end of Ming Dynasty and the beginning of Qing Dynasty, southern merchant ships from the North found a beach at the foot of Tubu mountain (there were several families with the surname of Wang living here at the end of Ming Dynasty, which was called sand island at that time). The harbor was wide and deep, with natural shelter from the wind, beautiful scenery and rich local products in the mainland, so they often stopped together to do business. In 1644, the port of dock Village moved to Sha Dao, which brought about the development of Commerce and gradually formed a small town. Because this place is back to the mountain and faces the sea, and there are stones everywhere, it was renamed Shidao. Up to now, after more than 300 years, it has been a small commercial Wharf in the east of Jiaodong Peninsula. In the middle of the Qing Dynasty, the commercial capital called "Huangxian Gang" entered Shidao, which greatly developed the fishery, commerce and shipping.

The system of Shidao has been changed several times. It belonged to Yunguang capital in the late Qing Dynasty, the Sixth District in the early Republic of China and the seventh district in 1930. In September 1945, Jiaodong administrative office decided to establish Shidao special zone, which included Longshan District, jiazishan District, Chishan District of Rongcheng county and Jinghai district and Renhe District of Wendeng County under the jurisdiction of Shidao special zone. In November 1946, Shidao special zone was changed into Shidao city. At the same time, Longshan district was abolished and mokaidao district was added; the area under its jurisdiction included the former wanglian town (now part of wanglian Street), the former Shidao town (now Gangwan Street), the former Dongshan Town (now part of Dongshan street and Taoyuan Street), the former Ningjin town (now part of Ningjin street and Taoyuan Street), the former Chishan town (now part of Chishan Street), the former Renhe Town and the former Jinghai Town. In December 1948, Shidao City narrowed down its urban area, and Jiazi mountain area (mukaidao district was incorporated) and Chishan area were assigned to Rongcheng county. Jinghai district and Renhe district were assigned to Wendeng county. Shidao city only governed the original (small) Shidao town (now Gangwan Street).

In May 1950, Shidao city was abolished and the area under its jurisdiction was set up as Shidao district under the jurisdiction of Rongcheng county. On April 1, 1954, Shidao county was established. Thirty three townships in 15 districts (Shidao District), 11 districts (Chishan District, including all of xianchishan street and part of wanglian street and Dongshan Street), 12 districts (Jiazi Mountain District, including all of xianningjin street, part of Dongshan street and Taoyuan Street) of Rongcheng County, and 22 townships in 10 districts (Renhe District) and 11 districts (Jinghai District) of Wendeng county are classified as Shidao county . Mukaidao district is added in Shidao County, with a total of 6 districts under its jurisdiction, including the Shidao administrative district of Rongcheng City (except some villages in wanglian Street) and Renhe Town (including the former Jinghai Town). February 1956 belongs to Laiyang district. In March 1956, Shidao county was abolished and all the areas under its jurisdiction were closed
