Bawu Gorge

Bawu gorge is the second gorge of the small Three Gorges, with a total length of 10 kilometers from dongpingba to taipingtan. It is named after Bawu River, a tributary of the gorge. It is also called Tiejiang gorge, also known as Guanyin gorge.

Introduction to scenic spots

It is a natural sculpture treasure in the gorge. On the stone wall of Bawu gorge on the West Bank of the gorge, there is a black brown stone relief inlaid on it, which looks like a tortoise. This is the mouth of the beach, so it is called Wugui beach. From wuguitan to Shuanglong, it's ten kilometers long, with high mountains and deep valleys, misty clouds, dense clocks and breasts, thousands of strange shapes, jagged rocks, zigzag peaks, no way out of the stone, and another day around the corner. It is known as "Qiya, Bawu gorge".

The hanging coffin is the most attractive place for tourists in Bawu gorge. According to the research, the hanging coffin burial began in the Western Zhou Dynasty and ended in the Ming Dynasty. According to the local folk custom, the higher the ancestors were buried, the more filial they were. Some hanging coffins are more than 2000 years apart, but they are still intact, which is rare at home and abroad.

In the gorge, there are monkey fishing for the moon, horse returning to mountain, tiger coming out, dragon entering, back to Dragon Cave, fairy throwing Hydrangea, Xiantao peak, Guanyin sitting on Lotus terrace, Bajie worshiping Guanyin, hanging coffin and other landscapes.

Historical evolution

On the cliff of the east bank, there is a golden scale long rock, which is very similar to the giant dragon coming back from the sky, and the head of the dragon has entered the cave; on the hillside of the opposite bank, there is a karst cave with yellow pebbles at the entrance, which is like a tiger trying to get out of the cave; on the cliff of the West Bank, there are strings of stalactites hanging upside down, which looks like two horses, whose heads have entered the mountain, but their tails and hind legs are still outside the mountain. As a result, a black hanging coffin, commonly known as "iron coffin", was also found in the crevice of the cliff four or five meters above the water on the East Bank of the river. Out of the gorge is the famous dangerous Beach "Yinwo Beach". Here, the mountains turn back, the beaches are dangerous and the flow is fast. It's really a dangerous way on the voyage.

According to the research, "iron coffin" was originally a hanging coffin of Ba people in the Warring States period. In fact, it was not made of iron, just because of its similar color. At present, the best preserved hanging coffin group is jingchuanba, 25 kilometers northeast of Wuxi County, where there are 24 black coffins. They were named Longjin, Hujin and maguishan. Wushan dangshen specialty, Daninghe wucaishi.

According to the research of experts, there were many hanging coffins in tiejiangxia, which had been crashed. Now there is still a boat coffin in the cave. "Boat coffin burial" is said to be an ancient funeral of Ba people. When the ancestor of Ba people competed for the position of leader, the earth boat was built in the water, so he won the position of the king of Ba and became the pioneer of Ba. After Wu Xiang's death, in memory of the legendary event of the beginning of Ba nationality's history, his descendants took a wooden boat and placed it on a high rock to show that he ascended to heaven. Later, the descendants of Minister Wu and his ministers all followed suit and became the custom of "ship coffin and rock burial".

Towering Bawu magical gorge, with a hundred interesting cliffs on both sides. When the yellow tiger leaves the rock, the golden dragon goes into the cave and chases the thunder. Hanging coffin

The word "hanging coffin" comes from Gu Ye Wang (519-581) in the Liang and Chen dynasties, who said that there are thousands of hanging coffins on the cliff in the house of the earth Immortals (Volume 47 of Taiping Yulan).

In 1946, when Chinese scholars visited Gongxian County and Xingwen County in Sichuan Province, they began to use this word as a special term.

Hanging coffin burials are found in Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan, Hunan, Guangxi, Guangdong, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Fujian, Anhui and other provinces, mainly in Wuyishan area of Fujian Province and Gongxian, Xingwen, Junlian, Zhenxiong and other counties at the junction of Sichuan and Yunnan. Cliff paintings coexist with Gongxian hanging coffin burial.

Hanging coffins found in different places have different burial utensils and ages. The boat shaped coffins in Wuyishan area of Fujian Province are mostly made of whole wood, belonging to the spring and Autumn period and Warring States period. The funerary objects of Baiya hanging coffin in this area include tortoise shaped wooden plates, hemp, ramie, silk, cotton textile fragments and bamboo mats. Most of the coffins in Gongxian and Xingwen areas of Sichuan Province are rectangular coffins made of whole wood. The top of the coffin is a herringbone slope cover, belonging to the yuan and Ming Dynasties. The funeral objects of luobiao hanging coffin in Gongxian County are mainly clothes, which are decorated with red tape, and the bamboo chopsticks are written with Chinese characters.
