Historical evolution
As early as 5500 years ago in the period of Songze culture, there were ancestors in Jinxi.
In the spring and Autumn period, Wuyue became a market town, belonging to Kuaiji Prefecture.
From the Three Kingdoms to the Tang Dynasty, it belonged to Wujun, and from the Five Dynasties to Suzhou.
In the first year of Shaoxing in Song Dynasty (1131 AD), the emperor named Chen tomb and then divided it into counties by taking the north and South Shihe as the boundary. Shangtang in Hexi belongs to Changzhou County, and Xiatang in Hedong belongs to Kunshan county.
In September 1952, chenmu Town, Zhouzhuang Town, Mingjing Town, Changbai town and Xiegang town in Wu County were divided into Kunshan county. Chenmu town in Kun county and Wu County merged and became chenmu town directly under Kunshan county.
In February 1985, the township management system was implemented, and Dianxi and chenmu townships were merged into chenmu town.
In October 1992, it was renamed Jinxi town.

In 2005, Jinxi ancient town was rated as a national 4A tourist attraction.

Jinxi ancient town has many lakes and rivers. There are Wubao lake, Dianshan Lake in the South and Chen Lake in the northwest. The ancient town has 6 kilometers of inland waterways, forming a typical water town in the south of the Yangtze River with Jinxi River and lake connected, zejinhuan Town, streets and alleys connected by water and bridges and alleys connected. Most of the existing dwellings in Jinxi ancient town were built in the Ming and Qing Dynasties and the Republic of China. Most of the residents were built by water. Tongshen imperial court
Tongshendaoyuan, formerly known as "tianqingguan", is located at the west end of South Street, Jinxi Town, Kunshan City. It was first built in the Southern Song Dynasty. It was expanded in the yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties. Today it has Dongyue hall and Mountain Gate, with a construction area of 200 square meters. In 1991, it was announced as the first batch of cultural relics protection units in Kunshan City.
Chen Feishui tomb
Chenfeishui tomb is located in the South Wubao lake of Jinxi town. In the first year of song Longxing (1163), the Jin soldiers invaded and Xiaozong moved south to Lin'an with his family. On the way, Chen Fei died of illness and was buried in a water grave. It was rebuilt in 1992. In 1997, it was announced as the second batch of cultural relics protection units in Kunshan City.
Lianchi Temple
Located on the Bank of Wubao Lake in the south of Jinxi Town, Lianchi temple was built in the Southern Song Dynasty, covering an area of 5111 square meters and a total construction area of 1400 square meters.
Tianshui Bridge
Commonly known as the North Guanyin bridge, the bridge crosses the oil vehicle port in a north-south direction. It was built in the fifth year of Yongle in the Ming Dynasty (1407), funded by Guo Zijing and rebuilt in the ninth year of Shunzhi in the Qing Dynasty (1652). The existing Tianshui bridge is a single span arch bridge, which is composed of granite except for the bluestone. The bridge is 17.2m long, 2.7m wide, 6m clear span and 3.1m high.
Puqing Bridge
Puqing bridge, also known as yujiaqiao, was first built in 1733 and rebuilt in Qianlong period. The bridge is granite ground, single hole arch bridge, east-west trend, across the city river. The bridge is 18.5 meters long, 2.8 meters wide, 6 meters clear span and 3.75 meters high. It is basically intact. There is a sentence in the bridge association that "the smoke from both sides of the Strait flows to the sea city, and a stream flows to the Chenghu Lake". In December 2005, it was announced as the first batch of controlled and protected buildings in Kunshan City.
Lihe Bridge
The bridge is also called Nantang bridge and nanguanyin bridge. Built in the Southern Song Dynasty, it is located on the santu River on the west side of the ancient lotus pond. It is one of the "eight Jinxi sceneries" in the Ming Dynasty and the site of "Gujing Fengting",
Shiyan Bridge
Shiyan bridge is located in the south of Jinxi Town, Kunshan City. It runs from the port of Fen Tang to the mouth of Wubao lake and runs north-south. The bridge is 52 meters long, 2.8 meters wide, 3 meters high, and the main span is 3.5 meters. Nine piers and ten holes. The bridge pier is built with stones in order, and the structure is solid. After the founding of the people's Republic of China, it has been repaired several times and is now well preserved.
Wenchang Pavilion
Wenxing Pavilion is located in the ancient lotus pond of Jinxi Town, Kunshan City. Built in the Ming Dynasty, it is a three story Pavilion style building with brick and wood square structure, cornices and angles, 15.6 meters high, and a total area of about 200 square meters. It has been repaired several times in history. In 1991, it was announced as the first batch of cultural relics protection units in Kunshan City.

The Party committee and government of Jinxi ancient town attach great importance to the protection of the ancient town, issued the overall plan with the theme of "protecting the ancient town and building a new area", formulated the implementation rules for the protection of Jinxi ancient town, promulgated the Interim Measures for the protection of Jinxi ancient town, and established the ancient town protection office in 2006. Since 2000, 25% - 30% of the total tourism revenue has been used for the protection of ancient towns. Jinxi ancient town takes cultural heritage as the focus of ancient town protection. Since 2006, it has successively repaired Shiyan bridge, Lihe bridge, Yangzhai and Wangzhai, which are the cultural protection units. The fire-fighting facilities inside the cultural relics and historic buildings have been improved once and for all.
Ancient town value
There are many historic sites and cultural relics in Jinxi ancient town, including Lianchi Buddhist temple, tongshendaoyuan, Wenchang Pavilion, chenfeishuizhong, Guhe revetment and ancient stone arch bridge, which are listed as Kunshan municipal cultural relics protection units. The ancient river revetment and ancient kiln site community have been declared as Jiangsu provincial cultural relics protection units. There are 26 ancient bridges in Jinxi ancient town, most of which are buildings of Ming and Qing Dynasties. The inscriptions, couplets and flower spinning on the bridges are exquisitely engraved, forming a unique "bridge culture" in the water town. Since the Ming Dynasty, Jinxi ancient town is famous for its kiln production. It is a traditional pillar industry and has formed a unique "brick and tile culture". There are about 15 ancient kilns in the town, which is the only well preserved ancient kiln community in East China. The traditional buildings in Jinxi ancient town are mainly in the Ming, Qing and early Republic of China, with typical Jiangnan architectural style. They are mainly residential buildings, quadrangles, and unique River Street market buildings, such as water wall doors, stilts, water Gallery sheds, and Bridge galleries. The area of ancient buildings accounts for more than 86% of the residential buildings in the town. The architectural features are simple and ancient, which is a very valuable cultural heritage.
