Taipei municipal zoo (also known as "Muzha zoo") is subordinate to the Education Bureau of Taipei municipal government. There are seven indoor exhibition halls in the park, in which you can see Taiwan's unique butterflies in the "insect museum"; the "koala Museum" and "Penguin Museum" are among the most popular exhibition halls; and two big pandas from the mainland are popular animal stars in the park. Taipei Zoo, also known as Mucha zoo and Taipei municipal zoo, was established in 1915. It was originally located in Yuanshan, Taipei. In 1986, it was moved to Mucha, Wenshan District, Taipei (No. 30, Section 2, Xinguang Road, Wenshan District, Taipei). It is subordinate to the Taipei Municipal Bureau of education. Covering an area of about 165 square meters, the park is known as "the largest zoo in Asia". Children's Zoo
It was opened in November 2004. It was transformed from the original lovely animal area. It is designed for the natural teaching of primary and secondary school students. It mainly focuses on wetland and countryside ecological landscape such as ponds and paddy fields. It is composed of "field ecological exhibition area", "local rural ecological exhibition area", "farm animal exhibition area" and "pet owner classroom". It points out the close relationship between human and animals and provides a common experience and learning space for children, parents and teachers.
Taiwan native fauna
The exhibition shows the protozoa and their habitats in Taiwan, and simulates the ecological environment of their original habitats. Well known animals include Chinese Pangolin (Taiwan subspecies), sika deer, Taiwan black bear, Taiwan macaque, Taiwan Mountain Qiang (yellow muntjac), Taiwan wild boar, white nosed heart (fruit civet), red bellied squirrel, otter, Taiwan long maned goat (Taiwan gazelle), great crested Eagle (snake Eagle), and civet (kitten). More than 20 species of native wild animals are displayed. They are famous for their high proportion of endemic species in Taiwan and Asian species. Among them, there are many rare species, such as clouded leopard, blue bellied pheasant, sika deer, etc.
Tropical rainforest region of Asia
Completed in 1998, it simulates the ecological landscape of tropical rainforest in Southeast Asia. According to the exhibition route, it is planned to be three exhibition areas of estuarine ecology, dense forest ecology and forest edge ecology. It is the first ecological exhibition site with both rainforest landscape and living animals on the island. Well known animals include Malay alligator, Borneo orangutan, gibbon, Bengal tiger, etc.
Elephant Star: Asian elephant Lin Wang entered the park in 1954 and died on February 26, 2003 at the age of 86. Lin Wang's wife, Asian elephant Malan, entered the park in 1952 and died on October 14, 2002 at the age of 54. There are two female Asian elephants in the park.
Desert animal region
Palm trees swaying in the wind are used to simulate the tropical desert environment in the Middle East, showing the most representative desert animals, such as camels and camels, as well as African wild ass, gazelle, bowhorn antelope and gazelle.
Australian zoological zone
Show the special ecological environment and animals in Australia. Many unique eucalyptus trees are planted in this area. Show the big grey kangaroo only distributed in Australia and the second and third largest walking birds in the world EMU and Turkey. Kangaroo is the most distinctive representative of the District, showing up to six species.
African fauna
In order to simulate the ecological environment of African grassland, the exhibition is mainly of medium and large animals, and most of them are displayed in mixed groups. The tree shade and shrub near the pond are used to simulate the animal gathering situation in the East African savannah. There are several endangered and rare species listed in the Washington Convention and subject to international trade control, including African elephant, zebra, Chapman zebra, hippo, giraffe, rhinoceros, mountain gazelle, western lowland gorilla, chimpanzee, East African baboon, red monkey, African lion, spotted hyena, etc.
Lion Star: Lion Zhong, an African lion, was originally kept by the Royal circus. He was abandoned when he toured Taiwan in 1990 and was taken in by Taipei Zoo the next year. He spent 16 years in the zoo. He died on April 22, 2007 at the age of 26 because he had long been trained by the circus and was docile and obedient.
Temperate fauna
This area mainly displays the animals inhabiting in temperate grassland and forest, including Przewalski wild horse, bison, grizzly bear, Asian black bear, puma, Eurasian lynx, beaver, otter, raccoon, red panda, etc. Among them, proctor's Mustang and bison are all large animals that have disappeared in the wild for a long time.
Bird Park
Located in the southeast of the zoo, it covers an area of about 4 hectares, including bird morphology area, pheasant and rare bird area, crane garden, parrot house, ecological bird garden and waterfowl area, displaying about 140 species of birds. Famous animals include the emperor pheasant, the big eye pheasant, the big crested pheasant, the red paradise bird, the nicobalius, the yellow croaker owl, the brown forest owl, the chestnut kite and so on.

Amphibians and reptiles Museum
The museum is divided into four categories: wetland, tropical rain forest, temperate forest and desert. In addition to simulating habitat, the museum also plans graphic education and specimen interpretation on the themes of "evolution", "morphology and structure", "Habitat", "behavior", "life history", "diversity", "two climbs and people", "conservation", "Beware of poisonous snakes", and pays attention to the collection of native species, and launches a series of special exhibitions with Taiwan as the theme. The species include Chinese alligator, Annam turtle, yadabela elephant turtle, Eastern diamondback rattlesnake, reticulated python, green tree python, Yaoshan crocodile lizard, Kaimen crocodile lizard, plain giant lizard, Rhinoceros Iguana, etc.
Night Animal Museum (closed)
The nocturnal animal museum opened in 1989. The use of light control to create a dark environment, so that visitors can observe and appreciate the life of nocturnal animals. The exhibition area of the museum has two floors. In the exhibition hall on the first floor, small primates such as owl, chipmunk, giant water rat, white nosed heart, four cats, Honey Bear, raccoon and other small cats can be observed. On the second floor, cartilaginous fish, bony fish, Gemini, reptiles, birds, marsupials, and meadows are the main species. In the second half of the floor, there are still displays of native freshwater fish and ancient fish in Taiwan streams.
