Fengjie Tiankeng Dixie

Tiankeng Dixie scenic spot is located in the southern mountain area of Fengjie County in the west of the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River. Qutang gorge, the Three Gorges scenic spot in the north, and Enshi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture in Hubei Province in the south, are 91 kilometers away from Fengjie County. The Tiankeng is 666 meters deep, which is the deepest Tiankeng in the world. There is a huge underground river at the bottom of Tiankeng. The water of the underground river comes from a mysterious Canyon called "ground fissure" by the local people.

From the pit mouth, walk down the steps on the cliff to the pit bottom to enjoy the natural scenery and the small waterfall on the pit wall. There are two terraces on the way: one is located at the depth of 300 meters, on which farmers can rest; the other is located at the depth of 400 meters, on which there are many vegetation and paths leading to the bottom of the pit.

Tiankeng is located in Xiaozhai village, Jingzhu Township, Fengjie County, with a maximum diameter of 626 meters at the mouth, a minimum diameter of 537 meters, a maximum diameter of 522 meters at the bottom, a vertical height of 666.2 meters and a total volume of 119.348 million cubic meters. It is the largest karst funnel in depth and volume in the world. Tiankengkou is surrounded by cliffs, which are as magnificent as an axe. There are countless deep and unpredictable caves and a surging underground river in the pit. Chinese and Western explorers have explored Tiankeng for many times. They have found that the underground river in Tiankeng flows to the labyrinth river through the outlet hole. They speculate that the underground river in Tiankeng comes from the mysterious earth fissure.

Landscape features

Tiankeng and Dixie is a colorful long scroll. Here, you can have a glimpse of the karst landscape. Tiankeng ground fissure scenic spot is located in the south of Fengjie County, Chongqing, the Western head of the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River. Tiankeng is the common name of funnel in karst geology. There are so many tiankengs in this area that it is impossible to count them. There are only one in a few hundred meters. Some of them are as small as a teacup, some as big as a golf course. There is a huge Tiankeng in Xiaozhai village, Jingzhu township. The ground fissure is also a marvelous spectacle that Chinese and foreign scientists praise. Between the two valleys, there is a mysterious deep valley in the shadow of the woods. The most wonderful thing is that the clear and green stream sculptures a huge underground cave group in this limestone area. Professor Wan Xinnan of Chengdu University of technology, who led French explorers to explore here several times, said that he had been to many scenic spots and felt that this is the most magical place, with various geological conditions and grotesque caves. The whole scenic spot is almost "riddled with holes". British and French explorers are full of praise, calling it "the world's first-class Magic Cave". Since 1994, explorers from China, Britain, France and Ireland have come to Fengjie many times and discovered a huge underground cave system. After seven or eight explorations, they only know a little about it. So far, they have discovered the largest funnel Xiaozhai Tiankeng in the world, the Tianjing gorge ground fissure with the largest width to width ratio in the world, and the underground river Longqiao River, which is not yet fully understood but belongs to the world's top class. It's not clear how many caves there are in Tiankeng and Dixie. It's still a mystery whether there will be amazing world-class major landscapes here. The caves in Tiankeng Dixie scenic spot have attracted the attention of scientists and explorers at home and abroad. We believe that its mysterious veil will be gradually uncovered.

In August 1996 and December 1997, Mr. andI, Secretary General of the International Association for cave exploration, personally led an exploration team to the earth fissure for investigation. Due to the limitation of exploration equipment, the underground caves in the earth fissure are changeable. The joint exploration activities between China and Britain only advanced a few kilometers in the caves. Whether the underground river in the crevice is connected with the Tiankeng, the largest funnel village in the world, and whether there are some strange creatures remains to be explored.

Traffic information

To Tiankeng Dixie, you can take a bus from Chongqing to Fengjie, or take a bus to Wanzhou, then take a boat to Fengjie, and then take a bus from Fengjie to Tiankeng Dixie for one hour (every hour from 6 a.m. to 4 a.m.).
