Chengdu four saints Temple

In 1933, it was renamed Four Saints Temple chapel. It is located at No. 17, North Street of Four Saints temple, Jinjiang District. It was formerly the Methodist Methodist Church of Canada, and has a history of 110 years. It is the oldest and well preserved church among the open churches in Chengdu. The existing church has a history of more than 80 years, and it is a church with more believers in the city and suburban counties. Designed and supervised by the missionary and architect Su Jixian, it is a Bavarian style church in Germany. It covers an area of more than 3000 square meters, uses an area of more than 1200 square meters, and is about 18 meters high. In 1980, the religious freedom policy was implemented and the hall was renovated. In 1989, the hall was officially restored. In 2015, due to the aging of the line, building corrosion and other problems, the church was repaired. When the church was repaired, the bell tower was restored.

British American Association of Canada is one of the main missionaries in Sichuan. It has 10 regional associations, including Chengdu, Pengxian, Jiading (now Leshan), Renshou, Ziliujing (Zigong), Chongqing, Luzhou, Zhongxian, Fuling and Rongxian. In 1919, there were 184 missionaries in Sichuan. Chengdu district has jurisdiction over 10 churches in Chengdu, Pixian and Wenjiang counties. There are three churches in Chengdu, namely the Four Saints' temple chapel, sutland chapel in Sujiao street and evangelical chapel in waidong Qinglong Street. Sutland chapel in the center of Chengdu is the largest one, which can accommodate more than 1200 people. It was demolished when the east-west trunk road was expanded in 1981.

In 1891, the British and American Missionaries of Canada preached to China. They were Virgil Chittenden Hart, a senior American missionary who had been preaching in China for many years. From 1840 to 1904, they belonged to the American and Israeli missionaries of the United States. They were g e Hartwell and his wife, D W Stevenson and O L Dr. and Mrs. kildorn, hull and a group of 9 people became the first missionaries of the society to come to China. They arrived in Chengdu, Sichuan Province in early 1892. They bought a vegetable plot in the Four Saints' temple and established the Four Saints' temple in 1894. One year later, in 1895, it was destroyed by the anti religious disturbance (Chengdu religious case). It was rebuilt the next year. After the Boxer Rebellion in 1900, the hall was destroyed again and rebuilt again, with a capacity of 300 people. Since then, many institutions have been built around the church, such as Renji Hospital for men and women, Huaying book company, Huaying women's middle school, union women's teacher, and so on. With a large number of believers, the "million brick" movement was launched in 1920 to build a new chapel with a bell tower that can accommodate thousands of people. The style is simplified Gothic. It was completed the following year. The designer is Walt small.

In 1945, general Feng Yuxiang rang the bell for the victory of the Anti Japanese war on the bell tower of Enguang hall.

At the beginning of the cultural revolution in 1966, the church was seriously damaged and occupied. It was restored on November 25, 1984 and reopened on January 1, 1989.

In 2015, due to the aging of the line, building corrosion and other problems, the church was repaired. When the church was repaired, the bell tower was restored. However, due to the stress of the building, only half of the height of the clock tower was restored.
