Wuhan Art Museum
The new museum of Wuhan Art Museum is based on the original Jincheng bank building in Hankou. The Former Hankou Jincheng bank building is a four story reinforced concrete structure, designed by Zhuang Jun, the first generation architect in China.
In 2005, the Wuhan municipal government invested nearly 200 million yuan for reconstruction and expansion. While retaining the original architectural style, the new museum has also scientifically designed and reconstructed its internal structure according to the requirements of the functions and facilities of the art museum. The overall layout of the new museum is the atrium corridor pattern, which is one of the important cultural facilities in Wuhan. In 2015, it was selected as the second batch of national key art museums.
Historical evolution
The predecessor of Wuhan Art Museum
The former site of Jincheng Bank of Wuhan Art Museum was started in 1930 and completed in 1931. The facade of Jincheng bank adopts the western classical style of porch columns, with columns up to three floors and circular arch windows on the second floor, which makes the whole facade of the building magnificent and full of certain changes. In 1938, the Japanese invaded Wuhan and occupied the building of Jincheng bank as the general headquarters. It was not until the victory of the Anti Japanese war in 1945 that Jincheng bank took back the building. After liberation, in 1952, Jincheng bank building was rented to Wuhan Library by the bank at that time. In 1957, Wuhan children's library was opened in this building. In 2003, Wuhan Art Museum was planned to be established, and the children's library moved out. This building has gone through different times, and the course of its life has also experienced ups and downs. It seems that the protection of excellent historical buildings should be a permanent topic.

The art museum full of classical and artistic charm will stand on the "Triangle Island" surrounded by Zhongshan Avenue and Baohua street, which is a key cultural construction project in Wuhan.
Jincheng bank is now a first-class protected building in Wuhan, while Jincheng bank's staff dormitory area was a second-class protected building in Wuhan. "From historical experience, only those used buildings can be preserved." This is also the original intention of the site selection of the art museum, which will enhance the function and environmental quality of the old city. It can't be abandoned and rebuilt. We can only take this group of protected buildings on the Triangle Island as the main body, transform and expand them to form an art museum, which has also become a new attempt to reuse the historical protected buildings in our city.
