Nanshan District, belonging to Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province, is located in the Midwest of Shenzhen city.
The administrative region is adjacent to Futian District from chegong temple in the East, Baoan District from Nantou Anle village and Chiwei village in the west, Baoan District and Longhua District from Yangtai mountain in the north, Shekou port, Dachan island and Neilingding Island in the south, Yuen Long of Hong Kong across Shenzhen Bay in the southeast and Macao and Zhuhai across Zhujiang Estuary in the southwest. In the sixth year of Xianhe (331) of the Eastern Jin Dynasty, Nanhai county was analyzed, and Dongguan county was set up, which governed six counties, including Bao'an and Xingning. Baoan county and Dongguan county were both set up in chengzigang (now Nantou of Shenzhen).
In the 24th year of Kaiyuan (736) of Tang Dynasty, Tuen Mun (Jun) town was set up, which was subordinate to Nantou city. In the second year of Zhide (757), Bao'an county was renamed Dongguan County, which was the capital of Guangzhou. The county government moved from Nantou to Yong (now Dongguan county).

Nanshan District is located on the East Bank of the Pearl River Estuary, close to the mountains and the sea. The terrain is high in the north and low in the south, with plains, platforms and hills alternating with each other. From north to south, it can be divided into three parts: the northern Hilly Basin Area, the central low hilly platform area and the southern isolated hilly plain area.
