The Information Engineering University of the Chinese people's Liberation Army is formed by the merger of the former Information Engineering College of the Chinese people's Liberation Army, the College of Surveying and mapping, and the College of electronic technology. It is directly under the leadership of the general staff. It is a national key military college of Science and engineering and one of the five comprehensive universities of the whole army. After years of unremitting efforts, the University of information engineering has developed from a single telecommunications engineering major to a multidisciplinary comprehensive university with electronic and information science and technology as the core, engineering as the core, science, engineering and culture as the penetration, command and management coordinated development. The university consists of School of information engineering, School of Surveying and mapping, School of electronic technology and School of science, covering an area of more than 3800 mu.

In order to expand the space for running a school, more than 1700 mu of land has been expropriated in Zhengzhou high tech Development Zone as a "basic joint training" base. A number of teaching buildings, experimental buildings, student dormitories and student canteens have sprung up; new libraries, swimming pools and plastic sports fields that meet the standards of IAAF level II track and field fields have been built; Lake Bridge pavilions, rockery corridors, Greenwood square and other cultural landscapes have been decorated. Large satellite receiving equipment, "Shenwei" 10 billion times supercomputer, computing center, GPS training ground, tactical training ground and other teaching and research facilities and venues have been built and equipped. High speed optical fiber campus network and long-distance teaching system have been built. Network terminals cover teaching buildings, experimental buildings and student dormitories.

Academicians Gao Jun, Wang Jiayao, Wu Jiangxing, Xu Qifeng, Wei Ziqing, Wang Renxiang, Chen Zuoming, academician Shen Rongjun, deputy commander in chief of the launch of Shenzhou-5 spacecraft, Yu Zhijian, chief engineer of the ground measurement and control system of Shenzhou-5 spacecraft, and Guo Yunfei, leader of the subject expert group of the National 863 program, are outstanding representatives among the graduates.
