Tibet University is one of the key universities under the national "211 Project" under the Ministry of education. In October 2004, it became a University jointly built by the people's Government of Tibet Autonomous Region and the Ministry of education. Founded in November 1951, the school has gone through Tibetan cadre training class, cadre school of Tibet Military Region, Tibet local cadre school and Tibet administrative cadre school. On this basis, Tibet normal school was established in March 1965 and Tibet normal college was established in July 1975. In order to meet the needs of the rapid economic and social development of Tibet for talents, it was officially renamed Tibet University in June 1985 with the approval of the Ministry of education. Since 1999, the art school of Tibet Autonomous Region, the Tibet Medical College, the medical department of Tibet University for Nationalities and the finance and Economics School of Tibet Autonomous Region have been merged into Tibet University.
The school covers a total area of 1179500 square meters, including hebalin campus, Najin campus, loprinka medical college campus and loprinka College of Finance and economics campus, with a building area of 428500 square meters.
