Northeast University was founded in 1923. Northeast University is a national key university directly under the Ministry of education. It is located in Shenyang, the largest central city in Northeast China. The school covers a total area of 2.03 million square meters and a construction area of 1 million square meters.

Founded in April 1923, Northeastern University is a university with a glorious tradition of patriotism. From August 1928 to January 1937, general Zhang Xueliang, a famous patriotic general, concurrently served as the president. After the September 18th Incident, Northeastern University was forced to move to Beiping, Kaifeng, Xi'an and Sichuan. During this period, the majority of teachers and students actively participated in the patriotic Anti Japanese movement and were the vanguard and main force of the "12-9" movement. In March 1949, Shenyang Institute of technology was established on the basis of Engineering College and Science College (part) of Northeast University. In August 1950, it was named Northeast Institute of technology. In 1960, it was listed as one of the 64 key universities in China, and was one of the first batch of universities authorized by the State Council to confer bachelor's, master's and doctor's degrees. On March 8, 1993, Northeast Institute of technology was renamed Northeast University. In September 1998, Northeastern University was transferred from the former university under the Ministry of metallurgy to the university directly under the Ministry of education. The school is one of the first batch of "211 Project" and "985 Project" key construction schools in China, and has been jointly constructed by the Ministry of education, Liaoning Province and Shenyang City.

Northeast University is a multi-disciplinary state key university with engineering as the main body. Among the 2245 teachers, there are 325 professors, including 5 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of engineering, 12 distinguished professors and lecture professors of the "Yangtze River scholars Award Program" of the Ministry of education, 13 winners of the national fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, 41 members of the "new century talents support program" of the Ministry of education, 2 national famous teachers, 200 doctoral supervisors, and 2335 doctoral students There are 4911 postgraduates and 22182 undergraduates.

Northeast University adheres to the discipline construction as the center, while maintaining and carrying forward the advantages of traditional disciplines such as metallurgy, materials, mining, machinery, etc., which are oriented to basic industries, vigorously supports and develops new high-tech disciplines such as computer, automation, etc., forming a pattern of coordinated development of science, philosophy, law, education, literature, management, etc. In the first national first-class discipline overall level ranking evaluation carried out by the National Center for academic degree and graduate education development, the first-class discipline of control science and engineering of our university was ranked first.

Northeast University constantly strengthens the functions of teaching and scientific research. Since 1989, Northeastern University has won 19 national outstanding teaching achievement awards, including 5 first prizes and 14 second prizes. It has obtained 13 national excellent courses, 2 national teaching teams and 2 experimental zones of talent training mode innovation. In 2005, Northeastern University passed the undergraduate teaching evaluation held by the Ministry of education. Since the 10th five year plan, the university has undertaken more than 2500 scientific and technological projects and won 209 national, provincial and ministerial awards for scientific and technological achievements, including 21 national awards, 207 National patents and 4211 papers collected by the three major international retrieval systems.

Northeast University Science Park is the first university science park in China. In 2000, Northeast University Science Park became one of the first 15 pilot construction units in China.

The university has established academic exchanges with 123 universities and research institutes in 23 countries and regions. A total of 705 famous scholars at home and abroad were employed as honorary professors and part-time professors of Northeastern University, and more than 4000 teachers were selected (Times) to study abroad, give lectures and cooperate in scientific research, which promoted the improvement of the academic level of the University.
