Zhejiang University of science and technology is a multi-disciplinary full-time provincial undergraduate college, which focuses on engineering, science, literature, art, economics, management and education. Its predecessor is Hangzhou Polytechnic College Affiliated to Zhejiang University, which was founded in 1980. The University firmly follows the road of running a school with its own characteristics, and gradually forms the school running characteristics of training high-quality application-oriented talents with practical ability, innovative spirit and international quality by learning from the school running experience of German University of Applied Sciences (FH) and combining with China's national conditions.

The main campus is located in Hangzhou, a famous historical and cultural city known as paradise on earth, with a planned land area of 1690 mu. The total construction area of the school is 440000 square meters, the total value of teaching and scientific research equipment is 206 million yuan, the collection of paper books is 1114000, e-books are 2.37 million, paper periodicals are 1686, and E-periodicals are 24000. There are 13 secondary colleges and 3 teaching departments (centers). There are 50 undergraduate majors. At present, there are more than 15600 full-time students and more than 1000 international students.

Over the past 30 years, the university has always taken international exchange and cooperation as an important strategy for its development. Through the world bank loan project, Sino German provincial and state cooperation project, Sino German government cooperation project, "Sino German forum" construction and various forms of inter school exchanges, the university has formed a distinctive international school running characteristics. The university is a pilot institution of Sino German cooperation in cultivating higher applied talents and a construction unit of "Sino German forum" base determined by the Ministry of education. It has become an important window for Zhejiang Province and even the whole country to exchange and cooperate with Germany in education, science and technology, and culture. It has also cooperated with Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States, France, Switzerland, Belgium, Romania, Slovakia, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Germany, etc More than 50 universities including South Korea and other countries have established exchange and cooperation relations, with more than 80 projects in various forms; they are funded by the excellent undergraduate exchange program of the International Fund for study abroad and the institutions for recruiting scholarship students from the Chinese government to study in China; they have opened 5 undergraduate majors and 2 courses in English, making them the largest number of undergraduate majors in the province The total number of foreign students is ranked fifth in the province, and the number of foreign students with academic qualifications is ranked fourth. In accordance with the educational concept of "learning for application, all-round development" and the teaching reform requirements of "optimizing foundation, strengthening ability, improving quality, developing personality, and encouraging innovation", the school has actively carried out the reform and practice of cultivating high-quality application-oriented talents. The university is one of the first batch of universities to implement the "excellent engineer education and training plan" by the Ministry of education. The University adheres to the discipline construction as the leader, oriented by the needs of economic transformation and upgrading and the layout of strategic emerging industries, and focuses on the implementation of the "discipline revitalization plan", striving to improve the discipline strength and scientific research level. In January 2013, the university successfully passed the overall acceptance of the master's degree awarding unit. At present, there are 8 provincial key disciplines in the 12th Five Year Plan period, 3 first-class disciplines authorized by master's degree, 2 provincial key laboratories (one of which is a cultivation project), 2 provincial first batch key science and technology innovation teams, and 1 provincial university innovation team. We signed cooperation agreements with Lubeck University of Applied Sciences and West Coast University of Applied Sciences in Germany to jointly hold the Sino German School of engineers of Zhejiang University of science and technology. The project is strongly supported by the provincial government, Provincial Department of education, Anji county Party committee and government. In February 2013, the construction project of Anji Campus (Sino German Institute of Engineers) was approved by Zhejiang provincial government. Anji campus has a planned land area of 500 mu, a building area of 180000 square meters, a total investment of 800 million, and a student scale of about 5000. It is expected to be completed in September 2014.
