Guangdong Institute of petrochemical industry is a public Undergraduate University jointly established by the people's Government of Guangdong Province, Sinopec, CNPC and CNOOC. It is the only Petrochemical Characteristic University in South China and the pilot University of "Zhuoyue engineer education and training plan" of the Ministry of education.

The school is located in Maoming City, Guangdong Province, the largest petrochemical production base and fruit production base in southern China. It covers an area of 1354100 square meters (about 2031 mu) (including the new campus). Since 1956, the university has been running a school with petrochemical characteristics. Adhering to the tradition of "hard struggle and realistic dedication", it has cultivated a large number of management elites, technical backbones and all kinds of application-oriented talents all over the country. With the mission of cultivating "application-oriented senior professionals with sound personality, solid foundation, strong practical ability and innovative spirit", the school comprehensively promotes quality education, pays close attention to the quality of education and teaching, and constantly improves the teaching quality and education level. The University cooperates with 20 universities including Sun Yat sen University, Huazhong Agricultural University, Taiyuan University of technology, Guangdong University of technology and Liaoning University of petroleum and chemical technology to train doctoral and postgraduate students.
