Historical evolution
In order to develop iron and steel industry, Baotou Iron and steel company was built in 1954. The birth of this "prairie pearl" is in urgent need of a large number of engineering and technical personnel. In order to adapt to the development of the situation, in February 1956, the Ministry of heavy industry decided to establish "Baotou Iron and steel industry school" and "Baotou Construction Engineering School" in Baotou.
In April 1957, the Ministry of metallurgical industry decided to merge Baotou Iron and Steel Industrial school with Baotou construction engineering school to establish "Baotou Industrial School of the Ministry of metallurgical industry".
In September 1958, the Ministry of metallurgical industry decided to establish the "Baotou Institute of technology" through the preparatory combination of Baotou Industrial school and Baotou Iron and Steel University.
In June 1959, Baotou Institute of technology was renamed "Baotou Institute of iron and steel industry".
In February 1960, the Ministry of metallurgical industry decided to change the name of Baotou Institute of iron and steel industry to "Baotou Institute of iron and steel". Lu Dingyi, then Vice Premier of the State Council, personally inscribed the name of the school.
In March 1994, the main building of the new campus was completed.
In November 1997, the college successfully passed the undergraduate teaching level assessment organized by the State Education Commission.
In December 1998, Baotou Iron and Steel Institute was under the jurisdiction of the people's Government of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, which implemented the operation system of joint construction between the central and local governments and local management.
In March 2000, Inner Mongolia coal industry school was merged.
In April 2003, it was renamed Inner Mongolia University of science and technology with the approval of the Ministry of education.
In September 2006, the school celebrated its 50th anniversary.
In June 2008, the university received the undergraduate teaching evaluation of the Ministry of education and obtained excellent results.
In 2009, the University became the construction unit of doctoral degree authorization.
In 2013, the university successfully passed the overall acceptance of the project construction of the doctoral degree awarding unit. In the same year, Inner Mongolia University of science and technology and its metallurgical engineering and mining engineering disciplines were approved as doctoral degree authorized units and doctoral degree authorized disciplines. So far, our university has the qualification of doctoral enrollment.
