Jilin University of Finance and economics is a key university in Jilin Province, which is jointly built by the people's Government of Jilin Province and the State Administration of taxation.

The school started from the bank cadre training class held by the head office of northeast bank in July 1946. It has experienced several historical periods, such as northeast bank cadre school, northeast bank special school, Changchun bank school, Jilin finance and Trade College and Jilin finance and trade school. In May 1978, Jilin finance and trade college was restored, in May 1992, it was renamed Changchun Taxation College, and in March 2010, it was renamed Jilin University of Finance and economics. The school was the first financial high school founded in New China

It is one of the earliest established regular undergraduate financial institutions in China, and the first tax undergraduate university in China.

In 2005, the school moved to the Bank of Jingyuetan, which is known as "the largest artificial forest sea in Asia". The campus covers an area of 1.08 million square meters. The construction of the campus is based on the concept of "nature, elegance, massiness and broadness", with a construction area of more than 300000 square meters.

At present, the university has six disciplines including economics, management, law, literature, science and engineering, seven provincial key first-class disciplines and eight master's degree authorized first-class disciplines. It is a postgraduate training unit for nine professional degrees in business administration, law, taxation, applied statistics, international business, accounting, finance, public administration and auditing. There are 32 undergraduate majors, including 6 national characteristic majors and 10 provincial characteristic majors; 1 National Excellent Course and 29 provincial excellent courses; 1 national excellent teaching team and 10 provincial excellent teaching teams; and 4 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers. The university is one of the first batch of excellent legal talents education and training bases in China. In 2012, the professional direction of CPA entered the A-level ranks in the teaching evaluation of CICPA, and ranked in the top three with Central University of Finance and economics and Tianjin University of Finance and economics. In 2014, Yatai School of business administration won the honorary title of "China's top ten MBA Business Schools" at the 8th China MBA leaders' annual meeting.

At present, there are 706 full-time teachers, including 416 with deputy senior titles and 160 with doctoral degrees. At present, the university has two key research bases of Humanities and Social Sciences and one provincial key laboratory in Jilin Province. The two academic journals "contemporary economic research" and "taxation and economy" sponsored by the university are national Chinese core journals, core journals of Chinese Humanities and Social Sciences, and source journals of China Social Sciences Citation Index. The university is one of the first batch of "Jilin Province 2011 plan" major demand Collaborative Innovation Center project construction units, the first batch of "Jilin Province University Innovation Team" project units; in recent years, the scientific research achievements are fruitful, social benefits are remarkable. Three scientific research achievements have won the outstanding achievement award of Humanities and Social Sciences in Chinese universities; 15 current political reports have been highly valued by Wu Bangguo, Wen Jiabao, Hui Liangyu, Wang Qishan and the main leaders of Jilin provincial Party committee, provincial government and provincial CPPCC, respectively giving instructions and making important contributions to serving the local economy.

The school has always adhered to the close combination of theoretical teaching and practical teaching, vigorously carried out quality education, formed the school tradition of paying attention to the cultivation of students' practical ability, and cultivated high-quality applied talents and top-notch innovative talents with all-round development of morality, intelligence, sports and beauty. There are 13057 students in the University, including 11338 ordinary undergraduates, 1687 postgraduates and 32 foreign students. Over the years, the one-time employment rate of schools has reached more than 92%. The university is "2012-2013 National Graduate Employment typical experience university".

The school adheres to the school motto of "moral integrity and practicality". It has established inter school cooperation with 32 universities in 9 countries and regions, including the United States, Australia, Russia, Japan, South Korea, Canada, Belarus, Sweden and Taiwan. Every year, we will carry out such activities as exchange visits of school level leaders, exchange of scholars and academic seminars, and carry out student degree programs and long-term and short-term exchange programs. In 1988, the University began to recruit foreign students. In 1999, it began to cooperate with Charles University of Australia. In 2010, the University, Newcastle University, East China University of science and technology, Yunnan University of Finance and economics and Tianjin University of Finance and economics jointly founded the "Shangri La University Alliance". In 2013, under the guidance of the Ministry of education, the University, as one of the 13 universities in China, established the China Russia Economic University Alliance with 13 universities in Russia.
