Lhasa teachers college is located at No.43 Niangre Road, Lhasa city. Its predecessor is the "teacher training class" founded by Lhasa Municipal Bureau of culture and education. With the approval of the people's Government of Tibet Autonomous Region in August 1975, Lhasa normal school was officially established and moved to its current location in 1978. On February 14, 2006, with the approval of the National College establishment committee, it was upgraded to a normal college. After more than 40 years of continuous development, the scale of school running has been expanding and the level of school running has been steadily improved. At present, it has initially formed a school running pattern in which normal education is the main part and non normal education coexists.
The school now covers an area of 205 mu, with a construction area of 43534.76 square meters and fixed assets of 71.9 million yuan. There are 202 teaching staff, including 164 full-time teachers. Among the teachers, there are 1 senior professional title and 28 deputy senior professional titles, accounting for 17% of the total number of full-time teachers; 63 lecturers, accounting for 38.4% of the total number of full-time teachers; 4 doctoral students, 62 of whom have obtained or are studying for postgraduate degree, accounting for 40.2% of the total number of full-time teachers; 136 of whom have bachelor degree or above. The school has 2167 full-time students and 1612 adult education students. Among the teachers and students, there are 11 ethnic groups, including Tibetan, Han, Mongolian and Hui.
At present, the school has 15 secondary institutions, including 6 administrative departments, 7 departments and 2 auxiliary teaching institutions. The six departments are the office, the political and Labor Affairs Office, the Discipline Inspection Commission, the educational administration office, the property and asset management office, and the learning and Engineering Office; the seven departments are the Chinese and Social Sciences Department, the mathematics and Natural Sciences Department, the education department, the information technology department, the sports and art department, the public teaching department, and the continuing education department; the two auxiliary teaching institutions are the basic education research institute and the library and literature management center.
As the only university in Lhasa, the main task of the university is to cultivate primary school and kindergarten teachers at the junior college level for the development of basic education in Lhasa, and undertake the important task of in-service training and improvement of key teachers and discipline leaders, primary and secondary school principals and other education management departments.
In recent years, the university has firmly grasped the favorable opportunity of the western development, thoroughly implemented the spirit of the third and fourth Tibetan symposiums held by the central government, gave full play to its own advantages, and expanded the scale of running schools through various channels and forms. It has strengthened exchanges and cooperation with Nanjing University, Capital Normal University, Suzhou University, Nanjing Normal University, Xuzhou Normal University, Yangzhou University, Tibet University and other institutions of higher learning in and out of the region. It has jointly run schools and established primary education, undergraduate correspondence education and postgraduate courses. The school has also set up a "Tibet youth mental health consultation center" and a Putonghua training and testing station of the Tibet State Language Commission, and established a regular exchange mechanism with the Danish University of education.
In the process of sustainable development, the school has continuously strengthened the construction of software and hardware, and constantly improved the conditions for running a school. It has built information technology center, micro classroom, two voice classrooms, five computer classrooms, three dance rehearsal rooms, 30 piano rooms, indoor basketball court, campus TV station, campus broadcasting system, canteen IC card meal selling management system, standard track and field playground of plastic track, built and opened campus network, and all classrooms are equipped with multimedia teaching equipment.
Over the past 40 years, the school has provided more than 13500 full-time and correspondence graduates and trained more than 3700 students. It is an important base and working machine for teacher education in the autonomous region, has made positive contributions to the basic education of the region, and has won wide praise and unanimous praise from all walks of life in the region. The school has won many honorary titles, such as "advanced collective of national unity", "civilized school of autonomous region", "advanced unit of comprehensive management of social security in Lhasa", "advanced collective of national mass sports" and "advanced unit of law popularization in the fourth five year plan" in Lhasa.
