Hebei North University is located in Zhangjiakou, a famous city outside the Great Wall known as Beijing's "North Gate" and "back garden". It has a long history of running a school and profound cultural accumulation. It is the only comprehensive undergraduate college in Northwest Hebei Province with the right to confer master's degree.

Approved by the Ministry of education of the people's Republic of China, Zhangjiakou Medical College, Zhangjiakou normal college and Zhangjiakou agricultural college were established in September 2003. The predecessor of Zhangjiakou medical college is Shanxi Chahar Hebei Bethune health school established in 1945, which was upgraded to undergraduate college with the approval of the Ministry of education in December 1982 and named Zhangjiakou Medical College; Zhangjiakou normal college was founded in 1956; Zhangjiakou agricultural college was founded in 1923. The school has three campuses: the headquarters (No. 11, diamond South Road), the east campus and the south campus. The campus covers an area of 1.14 million square meters and a building area of 498000 square meters. It has complete modern teaching facilities, advanced campus network, experimental center, provincial experimental teaching demonstration center and basic laboratories of various disciplines. The library has a collection of 1.42 million books. There are 2 affiliated hospitals, 5 non affiliated hospitals, 236 other practice hospitals, farms, pastures, veterinary hospitals and educational practice bases. Among them, the First Affiliated Hospital is the intersection of Hebei, Shanxi and Inner Mongolia. It is the third class a hospital and national baby friendly hospital with the largest scale, the most complete departments, advanced equipment and high level of diagnosis and treatment, integrating medical treatment, teaching, scientific research, prevention and rehabilitation.

The school has 1366 teaching staff. Pharmacology, medical informatics, pathology and pathophysiology are the key disciplines in Hebei Province, neurology and orthopedics are the key disciplines in Hebei Province, crop cultivation and farming, agricultural economic management, animal nutrition and feed science, human anatomy and tissue embryology are the key development disciplines in Hebei Province, and obstetrics and Gynecology, cardiovascular medicine, otorhinolaryngology head and neck surgery are the key development disciplines in Hebei Province Etiology is the key development discipline of Hebei Province, and pathogenic biology, internal medicine of traditional Chinese medicine, preventive veterinary medicine, ancient Chinese literature, basic mathematics, clinical laboratory diagnostics, Sinicization of Marxism, financial management, forensic medicine, food science and English linguistics are the key disciplines at the school level. There are 67 undergraduate specialties, among which clinical medicine is the traditional dominant specialty, medical laboratory, information management and information system (medical direction) is the first and characteristic specialty in North China, and forensic medicine is the first specialty in Hebei Province. In 2008, pharmacy was awarded as "innovation highland and brand characteristic specialty of undergraduate education in Hebei Province", and was selected as the third batch of characteristic specialty of national colleges and universities. The teaching team of pharmacy and agronomy was awarded as "teaching team of colleges and universities in Hebei Province", and agronomy was awarded as "brand characteristic specialty of Hebei Province" in 2009. Pathophysiology, experimental diagnostics, animal physiology, clinical microbiology and laboratory are the provincial excellent courses. Pathophysiology experimental teaching demonstration center, medical laboratory experimental teaching demonstration center, neuropharmacology laboratory and population health information engineering technology research center are listed as the key construction (Laboratory) centers in Hebei Province, while medical informatics and potato are the key construction (Laboratory) centers Hebei University applied technology R & D center and potato industry collaborative innovation center are the second batch of "2011 collaborative innovation centers" in Hebei Province.

The international exchange of the university is becoming more and more active, and the international cooperation in education is constantly strengthened. The university has established long-term and stable cooperative relations with universities and scientific research institutes in the United States, Japan, Canada, Germany, Australia, Ukraine, Hong Kong and other countries and regions, and has invited well-known scholars at home and abroad as part-time or visiting professors of our university. At present, the school has students from Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, South Africa, Nigeria, the United Kingdom, Canada, the United States, Australia and other 37 countries studying medicine. At the same time, the University launched the "1 + 2 + 1 Sino US talent training program" and established substantial cooperative relations with 18 state universities in the United States in terms of student training, teacher exchange, discipline construction, etc.
