Shandong Vocational College of industry is a state-run full-time ordinary university approved by Shandong Provincial People's government and registered by the Ministry of education. It is subordinate to Shandong Iron and Steel Group Co., Ltd.

The predecessor of the college is Zhangdian nonferrous metals industry school, which was founded in 1959. Later, it was renamed Shandong nonferrous metals school, Shandong Metallurgical Industry School and Shandong Industrial school. In 2002, Shandong metallurgical workers University moved from Jinan to Zibo. In May 2003, it was upgraded to Shandong Industrial Vocational College on the basis of national key technical secondary school Shandong Industrial school and Shandong metallurgical workers University. The college is now a civilized unit in Shandong Province and the first batch of construction units of Shandong famous school project.

The college is located in Zibo High Tech Development Zone, adjacent to the former capital of Qi in the East, the former site of "dyehouse" in the west, the former residence of Pu Songling in the South and the hometown of Wang Yuyang in the north. It covers an area of more than 1000 mu, with a construction area of 300000 square meters and a library collection of more than 700000 books.

Over the past half century, relying on the industry advantages, the college has built its core competitiveness, and gradually formed a higher vocational professional framework with the combination of science and engineering, the infiltration of Arts and science, and distinctive characteristics. The college consists of Metallurgy College, Department of mechanical and electrical engineering, Department of electrical engineering, Department of architecture and information engineering, Department of business administration and Teaching Department of Ideological and political theory foundation (hereinafter referred to as ideological and Political Department), with more than 30 majors. Among them, the major of electrical automation technology is the provincial demonstration major, the major of metallurgical technology, material forming and control technology, mechanical manufacturing and automation are the provincial characteristic majors, and the physical chemistry of silicate, thermal basis of metallurgical furnace, basis of mechanical manufacturing technology, fitter technology and training are the provincial excellent courses.

The college has a strong faculty, advanced teaching equipment and first-class teaching facilities. It has built more than 100 experimental and practical teaching places and more than 100 off campus training bases. Our college is a demonstration training base for electrical and electronic majors in Shandong Province, and has built a computer network and audio-visual teaching network covering the whole college. Student apartments and canteens have been rated as standardized student apartments and canteens by Provincial Department of education. In September 2010, the only talent training base of Shandong Iron and steel group was listed in our institute, which made a new breakthrough in the innovation of vocational education system and mechanism led by the government, guided by the industry and participated by enterprises.
