Northeast Normal University, a famous institution of higher learning, is a university directly under the Ministry of education and a key construction University of the national "211 Project". The school is located in the beautiful spring city of Changchun. The campus is located in the middle of Renmin Street. Jingyue campus is located in the picturesque Jingyuetan Tourism Development Zone. The school covers an area of 1.5 million square meters, of which the headquarters campus covers an area of 800000 square meters, and the Jingyue campus covers an area of 700000 square meters.

Founded in 1946, it is the first comprehensive university founded by the Communist Party of China in Northeast China. It was located in Changchun in 1949. In 1950, according to the needs of the development of national education, it was renamed Northeast Normal University. Zhang Xuesi, vice chairman of northeast Administrative Committee and brother of General Zhang Xueliang, was the first principal of the school. Famous educators Zhang Ruxin, Cheng Fangwu and Ding Haochuan successively held the main leading positions of the school. There are 19 colleges, 56 undergraduate majors, 146 master's degree programs, 18 master's degree programs of first-class disciplines, 78 doctor's degree programs and a graduate school. There are nine doctoral degree authorized first-class disciplines, including Marxist theory, pedagogy, Chinese language and literature, history, mathematics, chemistry, geography, biology, environmental science and engineering. There are post doctoral research stations in 11 disciplines including pedagogy, Chinese language and literature, history, applied economics, mathematics, chemistry, biology and geography, political science, Marxist theory, environmental science and engineering. There are five professional degree programs including master of education, master of public administration, master of physical education, master of Chinese International Education and master of engineering, as well as master's degree programs for university teachers. There are five national key disciplines in Colleges and universities, including principles of education, world history, cell biology, ecology and ideological and political education. Several major issues of basic education in contemporary China, key issues of regional civilization, informatization in Northeast China, molecular cell biology of basic life activities of eukaryotes, sustainable development of grassland and wetland in Songnen Plain, poly acid and light emitting materials, etc. have been identified as the key discipline construction projects of national "Tenth Five Year plan" and "211 Project". The three disciplines of history, Chinese and biology are the national talent training and scientific research bases for basic disciplines of Arts and Sciences.

The laboratory of grassland ecological engineering is a national specialized laboratory. The laboratory of vegetation ecological science, multi acid science, applied statistics and molecular epigenetics are the key laboratories of the Ministry of education. The laboratory of ecosystem restoration and ecosystem management of Jilin Province is the key laboratory jointly built by the Ministry of education. The University also has the Ministry of education Agricultural and medical genetic engineering research center, the Ministry of Education Digital Learning Support Technology Engineering Research Center (under construction), the State Environmental Protection Administration of the people's Republic of China and the Key Laboratory of wetland ecology and vegetation restoration. The Institute of rural education and the world civilization history research center are the key research bases of Humanities and social sciences of the Ministry of education.

National training and research institutions, such as the national experimental center of basic education, the National Research Center of Northeast Normal University for continuing education of primary and secondary school teachers, the national modern educational technology training center, the preparatory school for Chinese students to study in Japan, the Northeast Education Management Cadre Training Center of the Ministry of education, and the Northeast Normal University Teacher Training Center of the Ministry of education, are located in our university.
