Backbone Vocational Colleges of "National Demonstrative Higher Vocational College Construction Plan"

Jiangsu animal husbandry and veterinary vocational and technical college, formerly known as Tai county agricultural secondary technical school, was founded in 1958 in the "great leap forward" era. In January 1959, Taizhou City and Taizhou County merged into Taizhou County, and Taizhou Agricultural School and Taizhou Agricultural College merged into Taizhou Agricultural College; in February, Taizhou horticultural school merged into Taizhou University. In October 1959, the school changed its name to "Taizhou Agricultural School in Jiangsu Province". In 1961, Yangzhou special administration changed the name of "Taizhou Agricultural School of Jiangsu Province" to "Taizhou animal husbandry and Veterinary School of Jiangsu Province". In November 1969, the school changed its name to "the Revolutionary Committee of animal husbandry and Veterinary School of Tai county, Yangzhou special district"; in April 1970, it changed its name to "the Revolutionary Committee of animal husbandry and Veterinary School of Tai county, Jiangsu Province"; in April 1971, it changed its name again to "the Revolutionary Committee of Agricultural School of Tai county, Jiangsu Province". In the autumn of 1978, our school took the lead in resuming the enrollment of agricultural and animal husbandry schools in the whole province. In 1979, Yangzhou prefectural committee issued a document to restore the name of Taizhou animal husbandry and veterinary school in Jiangsu Province. On April 20, 1995, the provincial government approved that our school should be renamed "Jiangsu animal husbandry and veterinary school". On June 19, 2001, Jiangsu animal husbandry and veterinary vocational and technical college was established on the basis of Jiangsu animal husbandry and veterinary school with the approval of provincial government [2001] No. 100 document.

Jiangsu animal husbandry and veterinary vocational and technical college is the only college in southeast coastal areas of China and even in the south of China that focuses on training highly skilled talents in animal science and technology. Founded in 1958, the college is located in Taizhou, the hometown of Mei Lanfang, a great master of Peking Opera. In 2005, the college took the lead in passing the talent training level evaluation of Jiangsu Province. In 2008, the college was identified as a model higher vocational college in Jiangsu Province. In 2010, the college was identified as a national model (backbone) higher vocational college.

The college covers an area of 4300 Mu and a building area of 500000 square meters, forming a "one main and two wings" school running pattern with Fenghuang Road Campus as the main body and modern animal husbandry science and Technology Park and Jiangsu Beikang Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. as the two wings. There are 2 national level breeding and R & D institutions, including national waterfowl gene bank and Jiangquhai pig breeding farm, 10 provincial R & D centers, 4 municipal R & D platforms and 8 provincial R & D centers, including Jiangsu Key Laboratory of veterinary biopharmaceutical high technology, Jiangsu animal drug engineering research and development center, Jiangsu animal epidemiology research center, Jiangsu waterfowl breeding and promotion center, and Jiangsu Tibetan mastiff breeding center Institute Level Research Institute. There are 23 training bases in the hospital, including Modern Animal Science Park, animal hospital, Beikang Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. and Xinguang Machinery Manufacturing Co., Ltd. It has more than 200 laboratories and training rooms at all levels, 415 off campus training bases, more than 880000 books and more than 120000 electronic books. The total value of teaching and scientific research equipment is nearly 100 million yuan.

At present, there are 689 teachers in the college, including 165 teachers with deputy senior titles or above, including 33 teachers with senior titles and more than 300 teachers with doctor's and master's degrees. Among the professional teachers, "double qualification" teachers account for 71.4%. There are 1 special allowance from the State Council, 1 outstanding person of animal husbandry and veterinary science and technology in 60 years of new China, 1 leader of scientific and technological innovation team of provincial "Blue Project", 3 academic leaders of provincial "Blue Project", 10 provincial "333 high-level talents training objects", 16 backbone teachers of provincial "Blue Project" and 6 provincial "six talent peaks" training objects. The college enrolls students from 23 provinces, cities and autonomous regions in China, with nearly 15000 students.

It has four secondary colleges, six departments and two departments, including College of animal science and technology, College of animal medicine, College of animal medicine, College of food science and technology, Department of pet science and technology, Department of landscape science and technology, Department of aquatic science and technology, Department of economy and trade, Department of information engineering, Department of mechanical and electrical engineering, basic department and Department of Ideological and political science. There are 52 specialties (directions) around the animal husbandry industry chain, including 3 provincial brand specialties and 3 provincial characteristic specialties. It has won more than 40 provincial and ministerial education and teaching achievements, including 1 provincial first prize and 2 second prizes, 2 National Excellent Courses and 5 provincial excellent courses. In the past five years, it has undertaken 256 projects at the ministerial, provincial and municipal levels, and developed two new class II veterinary drugs at the national level, filling the gap of class II veterinary drugs in Jiangsu Province, with an average annual scientific research funding of more than 16 million yuan. It has successively won 1 second prize and 1 third prize of China Agricultural Science and technology award of Ministry of agriculture, 2 second prizes and 3 third prizes of Jiangsu Province Science and technology progress award, 4 first prizes and 4 second prizes of Jiangsu Province Science and technology progress award.
