Approved by the people's Government of Gansu Province and put on record by the Ministry of education of the people's Republic of China in 2001, the college was established on the basis of Jiuquan Institute of education and Jiuquan Industrial school. It is the earliest local vocational college established in Gansu Province. In early 2003, it has successively integrated high-quality education resources such as Jiuquan agricultural and forestry science and technology school and Jiuquan finance and economics school. Now it is the national Spark plan farmers' science and technology training school and the Rural Vocational College of Gansu Province Designated institutions for labor transfer and reemployment training, Jiuquan vocational and technical education and training center, Jiuquan tourism training center, Jiuquan national sixth vocational skill appraisal institute, Jiuquan continuing education base for professional and technical personnel and enterprise management cadre training base designated by Jiuquan Municipal People's government.

The college is located in Jiuquan high tech Industrial Park, which has a history of nearly 10 years. It is adjacent to Jiuquan wind power equipment manufacturing industrial park, which is developing rapidly and has broad prospects. It is an important link in the chain of Higher Vocational Education in a vast area of more than 2000 kilometers from Lanzhou, Gansu Province in the east to Urumqi, Xinjiang Province in the West. At present, the campus covers an area of 2115 mu, with a building area of 147900 square meters, a fixed asset of 267 million yuan, a library collection of 328000 books, 775000 e-books, and a teaching equipment asset of 35.8 million yuan. It has 5000 square meters of park, high standard Municipal Stadium and supporting gymnasium, LAN, CNKI digital library, VBI data broadcasting and satellite receiving system. The campus has reasonable layout, advanced planning, complete facilities and beautiful environment.

The college consists of eight teaching departments, namely, Department of tourism management, Department of mechanical and electrical engineering, Department of bioengineering, Department of architectural engineering, Department of chemical engineering, Department of economic management, Ministry of continuing education and Department of public courses, eight party and government departments, namely, office, organization and personnel Department, educational affairs department, Youth League Committee (Student Department), enrollment and employment department, scientific research department, planning and finance department and general affairs department, and two departments, namely, library and training center There is a teaching assistant department. It has 78 experimental training rooms and 148 off campus training bases. In cooperation with the Hans Seidel foundation of Germany, it has established a training base in Western China that radiates five provinces in Northwest China. There are 303 full-time teachers, 118 part-time teachers, 44 Higher Vocational Majors and 5383 full-time students.

In recent years, with the goal of creating a National Demonstrative Higher Vocational College, based on Jiuquan, radiating the surrounding areas, aiming at the local pillar industries, continuously optimizing the professional structure, vigorously strengthening the construction of basic ability and connotation, the school running level, talent training quality and social reputation have been significantly improved, and the college has successively won the "national advanced unit of rural youth transfer employment" and "advanced gardener award of Gansu Province" "Collective" and the city's "advanced unit of vocational education", "advanced unit of enrollment and employment", "model unit of garden greening" and other honors. In 2007, through the Ministry of education personnel training work level evaluation, obtained a good grade; in 2008, by the Ministry of education, the Ministry of finance as "national key support higher vocational colleges".

So far, the college has trained more than 20000 college and technical secondary school graduates, and completed about 100000 job training. The average employment rate of graduates has remained above 80%, and the quality of employment has improved year by year. A considerable number of graduates majoring in tourism, mechanical and electrical engineering, manufacturing, agricultural technology and civil engineering construction have grown into middle and high-level managers, technical backbone and backbone of enterprises in Jiuquan and surrounding areas, providing strong talent support for the social and economic development of Jiuquan City and even Gansu Province.
