Weinan vocational and technical college is a higher vocational school approved by Shaanxi Provincial People's government and registered by the Ministry of education. Its predecessor is Shaanxi traditional Chinese medicine school, Dali normal school, Pucheng normal school and Weinan agricultural school. Its history can be traced back to the "Tongzhou Industrial secondary school" founded in 1905. Over the past hundred years, a large number of professionals have been trained, which are widely distributed in education, health, agriculture, forestry and animal husbandry, and have made important contributions to economic and social development. Some famous alumni have emerged, such as Han Qide, vice chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, Wang Shuangxi, former vice governor of Shaanxi Province, Zhang Kejian, former director of Shaanxi Provincial Department of education, and Chen Wuyu, former president of Xi'an Jiaotong University. Liu Shoushan, a researcher of traditional Chinese medicine literature at the University, compiled a monograph of more than 4 million words, the abstract of traditional Chinese medicine research literature, which opened a precedent of modern Chinese medicine research. It is another comprehensive great work of traditional Chinese medicine literature in China after compendium of Materia Medica, and won the National Science Conference award in 1978.

The school is located in Weinan City, the east gate of Shaanxi Province, with Huashan in the East, Weishui in the north, Chang'an in the West and Qinling in the south. It has beautiful scenery, convenient transportation and rich historical and cultural heritage. The school has two campuses, high tech and Chaoyang, covering an area of 880 Mu and a construction area of 331000 square meters. At present, there are 849 teaching staff, including 534 full-time teachers, 180 with deputy senior titles, 53 doctors, 233 masters and 313 double qualified teachers.
