China University of mining and technology is a national key university directly under the Ministry of education, a national "211 Project" and "985 advantage discipline innovation platform project" construction university. It is also a University jointly built by the Ministry of education, Jiangsu Provincial People's government and the State Administration of work safety. As a multi-disciplinary research-oriented high-level university with a history of more than 100 years and distinctive characteristics, it plays an irreplaceable leading and supporting role in China's coal energy industry and local economic and social development. In 1960 and 1978, the University was twice identified as a national key university, one of the first batch of universities with the right to confer doctor's and master's degrees. The university has a graduate school. The school is located in Xuzhou City, Jiangsu Province, which is known as the "thoroughfare of five provinces". The campus covers an area of 4413 mu (1555 mu for Wenchang campus and 2858 mu for Nanhu campus), with a building area of more than 1.3 million square meters.
The predecessor of China University of mining and technology is Jiaozuo road and mining school, which was founded in 1909 by Fuk company. Jiaozuo road and mining school is one of the three private universities and the only private engineering university set up by foreigners in China in the late Qing Dynasty. It is also the earliest Mining University established in China and has continued to this day, and ranks among the first batch of modern universities in China. Since 1920s, the school has experienced the changes of Fuzhong Mining University and private Jiaozuo Institute of technology. After the outbreak of the Anti Japanese War, the University moved to Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, and then to Tianshui, Gansu Province. In 1938, the University, together with the Institute of technology of Northeast University, the Institute of technology of Peking University, and the Institute of technology of Beiyang University, formed the national Northwest Institute of technology in Chenggu, Shaanxi Province. After the victory of the Anti Japanese War, Jiaozuo Institute of technology was resumed in Luoyang, Henan Province in 1946. After several rounds, it moved to Zhengzhou, Henan Province and Suzhou, Jiangsu Province. In September 1949, it moved back to the original site of Jiaozuo.
In December 1949, the Central People's Government assigned Jiaozuo Institute of technology to the leadership of the Ministry of fuel industry. In March 1950, the newly established North China Coal Mining College was merged into Jiaozuo Institute of technology. Based on Jiaozuo Institute of technology, China Institute of mining, the first mining university in New China, was established in Tianjin. After a short transitional period between Tianjin and Jiaozuo, in February 1951, all the teachers, students, staff, books, instruments and equipment of Jiaozuo Institute of technology moved to Tianjin; in April, the founding ceremony of China University of mining and technology came to an end.
In 1952, the Department of mining of Beiyang University, Tangshan Jiaotong University and Tsinghua University was transferred to China Institute of mining and technology. As a result, the University gathered first-class mining science and technology talents in China. In 1953, in order to achieve greater development, the school moved to Beijing, renamed Beijing Institute of mining and technology, and became one of the famous "eight colleges" on Xueyuan Road in Beijing. During the "Cultural Revolution", the school moved to sanhuiba Town, Hechuan County, Sichuan Province, which is located at the foot of Huaying Mountain. In 1978, the school was rebuilt in Xuzhou, Jiangsu Province. The name of China University of mining and technology was restored, and the Beijing graduate department was set up at the original site of Xueyuan Road, Beijing. In 1988, the University changed its name to China University of mining and technology. Comrade Deng Xiaoping personally wrote the name of the University. In 1997, the Beijing Campus of China University of mining and technology was established with the approval of the State Education Commission. In 1998, the Ministry of coal industry was abolished, and the school was under the management of the State Coal Industry Bureau. In the same year, Beijing Coal Management Cadre College was merged into the school and became the "East Campus of Beijing Campus", forming a school running pattern of "one school, two places and three campuses". In 2000, the whole school was transferred to the management directly under the Ministry of education. Afterwards, the East Campus of Beijing campus was transferred to Beijing Broadcasting University. Xuzhou school headquarters and Beijing campus have gradually evolved into two independent entities.
The fate of schools has always been closely linked with the rise and fall of the national movement. With the vicissitudes of history and the vicissitudes of the times, China University of mining and technology has developed synchronously with China's industrialization process and grown up with the people's Republic of China. In the past 100 years, it has experienced 14 times of relocation, 12 times of change of name, hardships and exile, but it still has a long history. In old China, schools took the historical responsibility of "educating talents, preparing for the vanguard of material construction, engaging in research and seeking the academic independence of our country". In the new era, the school takes the sacred mission of "developing the mining industry, mining the bright future, building the motherland and benefiting mankind". Through the hard work of generation after generation of mining adults, the first-class brand and unique spiritual and cultural character of China's coal higher education have been forged, and the campus spirit of "learning hard, seeking truth, innovation, hard work, self-improvement" has been formed, the school running philosophy of "learning well, using well, learning well, creating well" and the fine school spirit of "diligence, realism, enterprising, dedication" have been formed.
The construction and development of the school has received the cordial care of the party and state leaders. Comrade Mao Zedong's "development of mining" inscription has inspired generations of adults to work hard for their cause. Comrade Deng Xiaoping has written instructions to guide schools to take the road of Zhongxing in the course of reform and opening up; Comrade Jiang Zemin came to inspect the school's scientific research work, and wrote 90th anniversary inscriptions for our school; Comrade Hu Jintao sent congratulations to our school for sending 100th anniversary schools; Comrade Xi Jinping attended our school and Germany. Duisburg Essen University signed a cooperation agreement on education and science and technology between the two universities.
As the only high-level university with distinctive characteristics named after mining industry in China, China University of mining and technology, with the support of higher authorities, coal energy industry and all sectors of society, has formed a discipline system and a basic pattern of multi-disciplinary university with engineering as the main subject, mining as the characteristic, and coordinated development of science, engineering, culture, management and other disciplines through long-term development and construction. In the exploration, development and utilization of coal energy, resources, environment and production related mine construction, safety, surveying and mapping, machinery, information technology, ecological restoration, management engineering and other fields, it has formed a dominant brand and distinctive characteristics. At present, the university has 59 undergraduate majors, 35 first-class discipline master's programs, 9 professional degree authorization programs, 16 first-class discipline doctoral programs, 14 post doctoral research stations, 1 first-class discipline national key discipline, 8 national key disciplines, 1 national key (cultivation) discipline, 8 "Yangtze River Scholar Award Program" specially appointed Professor post disciplines, 4 provincial first-class discipline key disciplines and 5 provincial first-class discipline key disciplines The project of "the construction project of superior disciplines in Jiangsu Universities" was set up. The school has a high-level teaching staff, with more than 3100 teaching staff. Among the 1770 full-time teachers, there are 347 professors and 564 associate professors, 303 doctoral supervisors and 812 master's supervisors, and more than 60% of them have doctoral degrees. Among the teachers, there are four national teaching teams, one innovative research group of NSFC and three innovative teams of the Ministry of education.
