Southwest University of science and technology is located in Mianyang, Sichuan Province, China's science and technology city. The university is a University jointly built by the Sichuan Provincial People's government and the Ministry of education, a University jointly built by the Sichuan Provincial People's government and the State Administration of science, technology and industry for national defense, and one of the 14 universities in the western region designated as the national key construction by the Ministry of education. Since its establishment, the school has been relocated several times and has gone through an extraordinary process of entrepreneurship, development and growth. In the context of deepening the reform of higher education system, the development of Western China and the construction of China (Mianyang) science and Technology City, the Ministry of Education approved the merger of Southwest Institute of technology and Mianyang College of economics and technology to establish Southwest University of science and technology on August 23, 2000. The university has one state key laboratory cultivation base jointly built by the Ministry of education, one national insulating materials engineering technology research center (co built), one national defense key discipline laboratory, two key laboratories of the Ministry of education, one engineering research center of the Ministry of education, two key laboratories of Sichuan Province, two engineering laboratories of Sichuan Province and two engineering technology research centers of Sichuan Province. There are three collaborative innovation centers in Sichuan Province, and the military civilian technology transfer and industry incubation centers in Sichuan Province. There are 11 key laboratories in Colleges and universities of Sichuan Province. The university has 39 national and provincial excellent courses such as modern electronic system design and management principles, 8 national and provincial teaching teams such as electronic technology and innovation and chemical experiment teaching group, and 7 national excellent talents education and training programs such as mechanical design, manufacturing and automation. There are six national characteristic specialty construction sites, such as materials science and engineering, automation and environmental engineering. The university is one of the designated contact universities in the comprehensive innovation and reform experiment of Sichuan Province.
