Hunan Railway Vocational and technical college is a higher vocational college with engineering major as the main subject and literature, management and economics as the common development. Mainly for rail transit, equipment manufacturing, electronic information, business management and other industries, to cultivate high-end skilled talents such as quasi technologists and quasi technicians to meet the needs of the post. The school was founded in 1951. In July 2000, with the approval of Hunan Provincial People's government, the former Zhuzhou railway electrical engineering school and the Ministry of Railways Industrial Workers University were merged and upgraded to Hunan Railway Vocational and technical college. In 2004, the Ministry of education in Higher Vocational Colleges personnel training level evaluation was "excellent".
