Tianjin University

Tianjin University is a national key university directly under the Ministry of education. Its predecessor is Beiyang University. It was founded on October 2, 1895. It is the first modern university in China. It is famous both at home and abroad for its motto of "seeking truth from facts", "rigorous scholarship" and "patriotic dedication". In 1951, Tianjin University was named after the adjustment of national departments and colleges. It was one of the first batch of 16 national key universities determined by the CPC Central Committee in 1959. It was also one of the first batch of key universities under the "211 Project" and "985 Project". The development of Tianjin University has always been the warm care and strong support of the leading leaders of the party and the state. Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, Deng Xiaoping, Jiang Zemin, Hu Jintao and Xi Jinping have visited schools in person.

The school covers an area of 1.82 million square meters, with a construction area of 1.425 million square meters. At present, there are 4455 faculty members, including 5 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 9 academicians of the Chinese Academy of engineering, and 17 double employed academicians. There are 27 winners of the national "Thousand Talents Program", 75 winners of the Tianjin "Thousand Talents Program", 38 distinguished professors and lecture professors of the Yangtze River scholars, 15 chief scientists of the 973 program, 22 winners of the national fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, 648 faculty members with senior titles and 546 professors. The university has 28710 full-time students, including 15618 undergraduates, 10139 postgraduates and 2953 doctoral students.

In terms of discipline construction, it has formed a discipline layout that focuses on engineering, combines science and engineering, and develops economy, management, arts, law, education and other disciplines in a coordinated way. There are 57 undergraduate programs, 35 first-class master programs, 27 first-class doctoral programs, and 21 post doctoral research centers. It has 7 national key disciplines of primary disciplines (covering 21 secondary disciplines), 8 national key disciplines of secondary disciplines and 2 national key (cultivation) disciplines of secondary disciplines. It has 4 national key laboratories, 2 national engineering laboratories, 1 National Engineering Technology Research Center, 3 national engineering research centers, 2 national key research and promotion centers for scientific and technological achievements, 1 national key research base for cultural relics, 68 provincial and ministerial key laboratories, engineering (Technology) centers, major special sub centers, key research bases for Humanities and Social Sciences, etc Including 8 Tianjin Engineering centers. There is one national innovation research group, eight innovation teams of the Ministry of education, and one national defense science and technology innovation team.

In May 2002, Tianjin University signed a contract with the General Logistics Department of the Chinese people's Liberation Army to jointly Train national defense students. So far, 777 national defense students have been recruited in Tianjin University, 129 national defense students have been selected and 577 have graduated.
