Shanghai Academy of drama

Shanghai Academy of drama is a higher art college in China to train drama professionals, formerly known as Shanghai Municipal experimental drama school. It was founded on December 1, 1945 by famous educator Gu Yuxiu and famous dramatists Li Jianwu, Gu Zhongyi and Huang zuolin, and Mr. Xiong Fusi was the first president of the Academy. In October 1949, Shanghai Municipal experimental drama school was renamed Shanghai Municipal drama college. In 1952, colleges and universities across the country adjusted their departments. The drama department of the Art Department of Shandong University and the drama troupe of Shanghai Xingzhi art school were merged into the Academy, which was officially established and renamed as the East China branch of the Central Academy of drama. In 1956, it was officially named Shanghai drama academy, a higher art college directly under the Ministry of culture. In April 2000, it was transferred to Shanghai and the Ministry of culture. In June 2002, the former school of performing arts of Shanghai Normal University, Shanghai Opera School and Shanghai dance school were merged into Shanghai Drama College.

At the same time, the college has also trained the first generation of dramatists of Tibet, Inner Mongolia and other ethnic minorities, making important contributions to promoting China's cultural cause.

Drama is the main subject of our college, which has been listed as the key subject of Shanghai since 1999. The level of doctoral and master's education is drama and drama as a secondary discipline, with a total of more than ten research directions. The college has three campuses: the headquarters is located in Huashan Road, the TV art college, dance college, drama college and affiliated drama school are located in Lianhua Road, and the affiliated dance school is located in Hongqiao Road.

The teaching facilities in Huashan Road are perfect. The experimental theater, black box drama laboratory, new experimental space and small theater are suitable for teaching practice performance and experimental drama rehearsal respectively. The library has a rich collection of drama books. Student apartments, restaurants and gymnasiums provide students with good living conditions.

At present, Lianhua Road Campus is the location of Opera Dance branch and affiliated opera school. It has high standard professional training room and Performance Hall. The campus layout is reasonable and the facilities are complete.

The affiliated dance school on Hongqiao Road was established as the current school site with the care and support of the older generation of leaders. The campus has lush trees, a quiet and pleasant environment, complete teaching facilities and spacious and bright classrooms.
