The predecessor of Yunnan University of Finance and economics is the Financial Cadre School of Yunnan Province, which was founded in 1951. In 1981, it was approved by the Ministry of education to become Yunnan University of Finance and trade and started full-time undergraduate education. In 1995, it was identified as a provincial key university by the Yunnan Provincial government. In February 2006, it was renamed as Yunnan University of Finance and economics with the approval of the Ministry of education. In 2007, it was awarded the excellent grade of undergraduate teaching evaluation by the Ministry of education, and in 2009, it was approved by the Ministry of education In 2013, it was listed as the construction unit of doctoral degree award project, and passed the overall acceptance in February 2013. It cooperates with Cook University in the United States and Charlestown University in Australia to hold bachelor's degree programs in international accounting and international business, with Greenwich University in the United Kingdom to hold master's degree programs in project management and real estate management, and with Edinburgh University of Gambia in the United Kingdom to hold bachelor's degree programs in finance.
