Another name: hewai (materia medica renewed), heclam (Jilin Chinese herbal medicine).

[source] it is the meat of Anodonta dorsalis, crista plicata and Hyriopsis cumingii.

[animal morphology] 1. Anodonta dorsalis

There are 2 pieces of shells, which are oval with angular process. The shell length is about 1.5 times of the shell height. The front part is slightly round, the back part is slightly oblique, the end part is blunt, and the ventral margin is arc-shaped. The top of the shell is slightly forward of the center of the dorsal margin. The anterior dorsal margin of the shell is shorter than the posterior margin; the posterior end of the posterior margin forms an obtuse angle protuberance with the back of the posterior margin, and there are three thick rib veins projecting from the top of the shell at the back. The surface of the shell is green brown, smooth, with thin annular rib veins. The top of the shell is carved, with 4-6 concentric rib veins. There are no teeth in the commissure; the ligaments are firm; the scar of adductor muscle is long oval, large and shallow; the scar of mantle muscle is obvious. The nacre on the inner surface of the shell is milky white, glossy, and the edge is bluish gray. The feet are broad, flat and axe shaped.

They live in rivers and lakes. It is distributed in most parts of the country.

② Crista plicata

The shell is slightly like an equilateral triangle. The anterior part is short and low, and the coronoid process of anterior dorsal margin is not obvious. The posterior part is long and high, and the back edge slants upward to form a large crown. The shell surface is dark yellow green to dark brown. The hinge part is strong, the left and right shells each have one big rear tooth, and the front tooth is thin and weak.

It is also widely distributed in most parts of the country.

③ Hyriopsis cumingii

The shell is slightly tetragonal. The top of the left and right shells are close together. The back edge is long and protrudes upward to form a large triangular sail like rear wing. The sail like part is fragile and easy to break. The left shell has two pseudo main teeth and two side teeth, and the right shell has two pseudo main teeth and one side tooth.

It is distributed in the Yangtze River Basin and Hebei Province.
