[plant morphology] Dryopteris acuminata
Perennial herbs, 80-150 cm high. Rhizome long and transverse, top dense brown lanceolate scales. The leaf blade is oblanceolate, 60-100 cm long and 15-30 cm wide, with sharp apical piece at the apex, and the lower part is slightly shortened, sub leathery, 13-20 pairs of pinnae, linear, 8-15 cm long and 10-18 mm wide. Pinnate lobes 2-3 mm wide, pointed, entire or slightly serrate, basal upward lobes often slightly longer, apical lobes 8-15 cm long and 1.2-1.5 cm wide; veins pinnately separated, middle rib and veins under leaves even or hairy, only a pair of lateral veins at base connected and extended to membranous curvature. The sporangia are large, round, attached to the veins below the leaves and close to the margin. The cysts are round and kidney shaped. The spore stage is from June to December.
In roadside wetlands, streams or forests. It is distributed to the south of the Yangtze River, to Taiwan in the East and to the south of Shaanxi in the north.
