[plant morphology] Artemisia annua
Annual herb, 35-100 cm high. Stem erect, longitudinally furrowed and angular. Leaves alternate; leaves 2-3 pinnate, ultimate lobes narrowly linear, 0.5-1.5 cm long, 2-3 mm wide, apex acute, entire, subcleathery; petiole 1-3 cm long. Inflorescence terminal sparse raceme; usually with 3-5 flowers, sometimes 1 flower, single stem apex; bracts 3, conical; pedicel short; calyx campanulate, 5-lobed, apex acute; corolla funnel-shaped, purple, apex 5-lobed, lobes obtuse round, the lowest one smaller; stamens 4, 2-strong, filamentous; ovary superior, 2-locular, stigma 2-lobed. Capsule long angular, slightly curved outward, 5-10 cm long, about 4 mm in diameter, 2-lobed at maturity. Seeds numerous, rounded or oblong, winged around. The flowering period is from June to July. The fruit period is from July to August.
It grows on hillsides, fields and roadsides. It is distributed in Northeast, North and southwest China.

[medicinal material] it is a dry whole grass with cylindrical stem, many branches, light green to yellowish green surface, slightly with fine edges or longitudinal lines, smooth. Most of the leaves are broken or shed. The upper part of the stem has a capsule arranged in a racemose, more dehiscent, with septa inside; the seed is flat, with membranous wings. The stem is brittle, easy to break, and the section is yellow white. The air is weak and the taste is light.
