[plant morphology] Salvia miltiorrhiza, also known as ground stem rat tail.
Perennial herbs. The leaves are oval, 3.5-13 cm long, 3-6.5 cm wide, apex obtuse, base heart-shaped, margin coarsely crenate, with sparse pubescence on the top and pale brown pubescence on the veins; petiole 6-18 cm long, dark purple, with pale brown curly pubescence. The stem is about 30 cm high, square, densely pilose, inflorescence sometimes branched; 2-4 flowers are whorled, petiole about 5 mm long; calyx campanulate, 2-lipped, purplish red, upper lip entire, lower lip 2-lobed, outer pubescent; corolla 2-lipped, about 8 mm long, extending beyond calyx tube, upper lip erect, lower lip 3-lobed; stamen protruding from corolla tube; pistil slender. Nutlets ovoid, ca. 1. 5 mm long.
Born on wet rock. Distributed in Guizhou, Guangxi and other places.
