Deciduous trees, up to 15 m high. The bark is dark gray and exfoliate; the twigs are zigzag, densely covered with lenticels, without spines. Leaves alternate, elliptic ovate to broadly ovate, 4-10 cm long and 2.5-9 cm wide, apex acuminate, base rounded to broadly cuneate, margin undulate toothed, subcleathery; petiole 3-6 cm long. Flowers yellow green, long peduncle, terminal or axillary cyme; calyx 5-lobed; petals 5; stamens 5; ovary 2-3-locular, connate with disk. Drupe woody, oblate, surrounded by broad thin wings, shaped like copper coin, about 2.5 cm in diameter. Purple brown. The flowering period is May. The fruiting period is October.
Born in mountain forest. It is distributed in Jiangsu, Anhui, Zhejiang, Hubei, Sichuan, Guangxi, Yunnan and other places.
